Flyerplesys Perfectly adorable
ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
Salubfoto It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.
SanEat A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
jessy zaki At first i thought it was a rip off Shallow Hal or at least it would be a usual cliched romcom. Instead, i found a real message through a simple and lighthearted plot. Yes, i know it has some silly moments, but we can overlook them as the whole experience of this feel-good movie is worth watching. Kim Ah Jung-in her first role-fits the role of the cute Hanna and the beautiful Jenny perfectly. She did all the songs by herself, despite not being a singer. I like all the songs. my favourit is Maria, which is originally by Blondie. Actually the songs topped the Korean charts at that year. "200 pounds beauty" was a super hit and won many awards and nominations including best actress and best film, so watch it. It is really a sweet one.
KineticSeoul This movie was a big success in Korea when it first came out. I personally thought it was a bit over hyped after watching the movie, but it's still a pretty good movie with many aspects and elements that work. I found it sort of interesting how the main actress went though plastic surgery in real life and she goes through plastic surgery in this movie. The movie has a message that works and understandable, like how you won't know how certain people feels or going through without being in their shoes and to not be judgmental of other people. And has other messages as well. So for a simple plot the movie has depth for the most part. The movie comes off a bit shallow at times but for the most part it's a enjoyable film, just a bit overrated.7.6/10
smashayre I stumbled onto it by way of having seen Kim Ah Jung in something else she was funny in. At any rate when I heard there was going to be a sequel to this my first thought was how? For that matter how could they possibly have kept the Japanese comic that inspired this movie going with a premise that's pretty much a mishmash betwixt Cyrano De Bergerac and Eddie Murphy's remake of The Nutty Professor but without the scifi angle. I'm always amazed at how Japanese comic artists can keep their series going well into the hundreds what would only last 2 seasons here would last well beyond it there just because their writers are so creative with their plot twists and development. There are spoilers in this review so read on if you want to be spoiled. As for the aforementioned comparison to Cyrano De Bergerac? Much like Cyrano, Kang Han na is or at least deems herself hideous and as such decides to stay out of the lime light while she let's someone else take the credit for her singing much like Cyrano De Bergerac allowed the guy who was his rival take credit for the poetry he wrote. In further comparison to Cyrano De Bergerac is how Kang Han na post-surgery sticks up for a voyeur with his camera by stating that she understands exactly how he felt when really it was how she felt. Then there's the whole secret love interest angle that's so obviously Cyrano albeit with the engendered roles switched (Kang Han na's a woman after all not a man).Much like the Nutty Professor she was obsessed over trying to find ways to lose her weight just to get her love interest to love her. First with diet pills then she ultimately turned to science albeit in the form of plastic surgery but not a scifi special serum. That being said there's nary a fart-joke here so you've been warned. But Kim Ah Jung can sing who knew. My favorite is the Beautiful Girl song with Maria being a close second I guess. With that being said once I saw this movie to its end I could definitely see some natural problems pop-up that could feed into the sequel. I mean women get fat after getting pregnant right? I suspect once her bf gets over the whole plastic surgery thing she'll be pregnant with his baby. I also suspect she'd gain the weight back so that she'd be back to 200+ pounds. That being said since she's not necessarily used to the concept of dieting or exercising to lose weight I imagine that would be a struggle in addition to maintaining her newly restarted singing career. Not only that but the impending delivery of the baby and her increased appetite in addition to the contractions and her water breaking. These are natural problems. I don't think he'd leave her because I don't think he's really that shallow. Oh and if they wanted to they could add fart-jokes here too pregnant have gas too but I suspect they won't. The really important thing is that they keep the heart in there in addition to the comedy, the good music, and the overall feel good nature that you get in the end.
crossbow0106 This could have been a disaster. A story about a "ghost singer" (think Milli Vinilli) and phone sex operator changes her whole appearance, going from 200 pounds to becoming beautiful and shapely via full body plastic surgery, it could have been a silly film. It has silly moments, where guys are awestruck by her beauty, but this romantic comedy has a lot of heart. It succeeds in having Hanna, played by the beautiful Ah-jung Kim, and the guy she likes, Sang-jun, not become too serious, but also not become parodies of themselves. The movie, as you may have figured out, plays the fat card, but does it with restraint. Hanna becomes Jenny after her makeover, and works with Sang-jun. One thing I wished didn't happen thankfully didn't: She didn't all of a sudden begin sagging before our eyes. The music is good, some songs in English, some in Korean (I liked how they remade Blondie's "Maria"). Ah-jung Kim is a good actress, she plays Hanna/Jenny very well. I think you will get a lot from this film, and that is without the film being preachy about how everyone is beautiful, no matter what. There are nice sentimental touches in this film. I liked it a lot. I think Ah-jung Kim is someone to watch, she played the role perfectly. Its a feel good movie, so go ahead and see it.
