True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable

When Leslie Nielsen became a hot star overnight after "The Naked Gun", he didn't forget his Canadian origins, taking breaks from starring in big budget American movies to star in Canadian projects, this being one of them. But considering how awful those Canadian projects were, he would have been better off forgetting about loyalty to one's country and just choosing the best projects offered regardless of their country of origin. "2001: A Space Travesty" is not only his worst Canadian film, it's probably the worst movie in his career. There is not one single joke in the movie that makes you laugh, smile, or even smirk a little. It seems to have been written by people who just saw one "spoof" movie in their lives, and not having any sense of what's funny and what's overkill. And it's directed in a manner that has no proper comic timing, and often plays in a confusing manner that takes you several seconds to figure out just what happened on screen. It's no wonder no American distributor picked this up for theatrical release (and why it bombed so badly in its half-hearted Canadian theatrical release.) Only if you are REALLY wanting to see clean-cut Nielsen in an "R" rated movie... though I felt that the content of the movie deserved no more than a PG-13 rating.

Poor in all the other aspects. The plot isn't watchable, the actors look lazy, the story runs slowly and have few jokes that aren't that funny. Having a trip around the outer space was good to arrange some funny moments, but the writers and the directors didn't avail this place very well. Also, 99 minutes for a comedy-idiot movie like this is too much. Look others of the same genre: Disaster Movie: 87 minutes Superhero Movie: 75 minutes Meet the Spartans: 86 minutesGolstein could have noticed this, made more quickly jokes and less stupid development.

I've seen the "Mystery Science Theater 3000" movies but even the worst science fiction crappy movies from 60's they made fun of weren't as bad as this one!!from the start I wasn't expecting much, even thought they've had Leslie Nielsen, but with each minute I was more and more depressed, bored and ashamed to waste my life with this kind of bull**itI'm not a impulsive man, but all the authors of "2001: A Space Travesty" should be taken to the prison for what they have done - for the first time in my life I wished god would take away my sight so I didn't have to watch the movie until the end!!!!!!!!

i guess i have seen this movie. i've watched the first 15 minutes of it several times, and once i even watched the first 20 minutes. why do i keep trying? because i really like Leslie Nielsen. why don't i watch the whole thing? because it's awful. no, it's worse than awful. it's pathetic, and it's embarrassing. the jokes are not funny, not even when they are off-color. ("stifficus" for a constellation? come on, come on.) do i somehow think it's going to be better the next time i watch? i must think so, because i keep trying. and i suppose one of these days i will try again. it's very sad to see a long-time favorite star descend to such depths. i felt the same way with "the world's greatest lover" with gene wilder. well, i guess it's back to "naked gun" and "dracula - dead and loving it."
