Some things I liked some I did not.

I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.

I just watched it. And I am speechless. Its the best sci-fi movie I have seen since Intersteller. The main driver of the film is the Story of the film and the director has done an amazingly perfect work on the story. Next is the Hero/Villain of the movie - Suriya. I have been a fan of Suriya after I watched his movie Masss. Suriya is an amazing actor. Since he is playing 3 different roles in the movie, a person watching the movie just forget it and feels like those 3 are all together different persons. I think thats make him an outstanding actor.About the movie. The movie is gripping from its first scene only. You cannot skip a single scene. I didn't understand the songs of the movie because I am not South Indian but believe me they are all sounds really good as the composer is AR Rahman. The man has given an amazing score to the film. During the movie there are so many twists and turns that you cannot predict and explains the quality of the movie. I will not say about the ending of the movie, you just have to watch the movie for it.MY RATING - 10 STARS Go and watch it. Don't Skip it at any cost. This is the best Sci-fi Movie India has ever produced.

You know how you have been in a movie which says a lot but acts very little? Yes this is such a kind of movieMovie will keep you immersed in the first 30 minutes, but once that is over, you will keep wondering why did that had to happen? what was the motive? Seriously such brutal scenes really would need a explanation but the movie offers nothing as such, does the creators really think the audience will watch whatever is thrown at us? No, not at all. Then comes the real use of a time-travel, to romance of-course, nothing else. Hero pleases her lady with all gimmicks thanks to the time-watch, many said this was not needed, i disagree, in fact that was the only time the time-travel made sense in the entire movie. Anyone who wants to please his girl friend will do anything such as this and Surya is no exception, but again in this positive note there was one letdown. DIALOGUES. OMG i think the producers only paid half of what was agreed to the lyricist. The dialogues was only annoying as hell and repeated again and again until the point where you literally shout, SHUT UP!!Second half starts with a different Surya but you get the drift by now, the movie wanders in all places looking for a story and a sudden filler is converted into a motto of the antagonist, he wants to go back in time to get rid of his misery, OK yeah i totally buy that now, only why didn't he have such a clear plan before makes me wonder the movie makers didn't really think of one earlier which would made the movie all the more likableGranted post this, there are many twists and turns which will keep you engaged, but still you feel the movie is just dragging beyond the limit and is just delaying the expected. I agree in almost every time-travel movie this is the case, but the way it is executed makes all the difference, here the execution is sub-standardAlso the main concept is flawed, if you travel back to a time, you travel as you are at your current state, that's what makes time travel fun, in this movie when Surya goes back to his infant state, that totally collapses the entire time-travel. At that point what do you expect a crying baby to do? His father made some wild guesses and it turned out right, what if it was wrong? What was the point of coming back in time if you can't do anything? So what you are saying now is Surya has to re-live all of his 26 years again still remembering everything? isn't that cruelty to some one?All movie makers need to understand this: A movie is not made in first 20 minutes, but only based on the character developments. If you kill the main character in the movie so quickly i will be least bothered and you will not leave a mark, so pace the movie in such a way that there is a proper backstory, reasoning behind the actions and then the final act is remove the character in such a way that it will leave tears in your eyes. For e.g., in this movie the character of Saranya was a step-mother: We all totally buy that, but when she says her backstory on the hardships she went through, you are really hit and feel bad for her. Now that gave her character more depth and respect which is what should have been done to all lead charactersThe device as expected was set to be destroyed, but instead in this movie, the device was just thrown in the park. Am guessing that is a clue for us to say they would make a sequel to this. If so, i would happily pass and would advice everyone to do so. Waste of potential at its best!

A couple of my Tamil students gave me an enthusiastic heads up on 24 a few months back and I finally saw it with my mom yesterday. The missus ain't too keen to watch it because of the time travel element. Yes, time travel in a Tamil film!Time travel is but one part of it. This has romance, family saga, revenge and good old drama all thrown together for one terrific masala dish. I wouldn't say the the concoction is potent because the 2h 44min runtime is a little punishing and the different elements can't quite gel together seamlessly. However, at an entertainment level 24 is way up there with its numerous twists and turns. If you have seen a lot of Bollywood and Tollywood films, you will no doubt see numerous plot-lines and notable scenes borrowed from Hollywood. With 24 your mind will definitely harken back to the hilarious wooing scenes between Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell in Groundhog Day. Watch how 24 take that concept all the way to the outer reaches. I can't say it is successful every time, but I absolutely admire its vibe of inventiveness, its sense of adventure and wanton risk-taking. Talking about risks, the star Suriya took on 3 major roles and he nailed each of them marvellously. The 3 roles are so diverse that I easily saw Suriya dissecting himself into 3 characters. I like ogling at the love interest played by Samantha Ruth Prabhu who is not new to me. I last saw her in Eega and here she has blossomed into a woman. Like all time travel genre films, 24 has a lot of questions left unanswered like what happened to the characters in the 'present' timeline (my wife always gets a headache with this one :)) and the reason Athreya is so evil is never satisfyingly explained. But kudos to director Vikram K. Kumar for not trying to over-explain the mechanics of it and making the movie so fun to watch.

24 had one of the best openings a movie could ever have. I just love the way it began, when it came to younger Surya, it was fun but on the other hand it did get irritating a bitPerformances- Surya has done a neat job as Mani and brilliant job as Athreya. Samantha could have dubbed for herself which would have made her role quite noticeable. Saranya really has done the same old role more better. Positives- The fast paced screenplay and the amazing use of the concept time travel. Loved the way Athreya character was written. He was a really a smart villain after the other amazing Sidharth Abhimanyu. Brilliant bgm and songs. Arr at his best. Ending really was apt and properNegatives- I expected a more complex story or more of a sensible movie because the theme was time travel but I guess the director had to compromise and add some fantasy elements for the movie to reach the other class audiences. But the point is they never appreciate anything new, which is bain to Tamil films.Overall- An enjoyable ride with brilliance in every field but could have added more sensible contents so that the intelligent audiences who thrive to watch a sensible Tamil movie could have enjoyed.
