Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

If I believed in guilty pleasures, which I don't, 3000 Miles To Graceland would constitute as one, but I'm a pretty open book, avid fan of all sorts of films, and I either like something or I don't, there's no special category for things I'm too embarrassed to say I enjoy. This film is the very definition of unbridled fun, and greases up a pair Hollywood leading men stars for two of the meanest, sleaziest, down n' dirtiest roles of their careers. Elvis is the name of the game here, pretty much every character spending the film in King costumes of varied colour and style, gathering in Vegas for one bloody show of a casino heist, then gloriously double crossing each other and running off into the desert with their ill gotten loot. Kevin Costner is demented brilliance as Murphy, a bad tempered, psychotic criminal who may literally be Presley's long lost bastard child. Costner rarely gets to cut loose and grime it up like this and he milks every hair-gel soaked, chromed up second of it. He's at odds with former partner in crime Zane, played with cold, sociopathic grace by Kurt Russell. It's a hoot watching these two tough guys go to war on each other in high style, killing everything else that moves and seriously not giving one ounce of f#%ks the whole time. That's pretty much all there is in terms of plot: a heist, and then one long, violent extended chase scene punctuated by character's deaths every few miles. David Arquette, Ice T, Christian Slater and Bokeem Woodbine play their short lived cohorts, and they're also pursued by a few wiseguy federal agents (Thomas Haden Church and Kevin Pollak) who are always one step behind. It's the Kurt and Kevin show all the way though, and they both let it rip, two antagonists out to get each other in the worst ways, leaving a spectacular trail of wanton carnage and deliberate collateral damage in their sequin strewn wake. A total blast.

Dressed as Elvis Presley, five criminals rob a casino during an Elvis impersonator convention, however, disagreements over what to do with the money bring about dire consequences in this action comedy starring Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell. The film curiously divides rather evenly into three sections. The first section is the easily the best involving the cleverly planned and rather unique heist with comic relief in plentiful supply; Russell makes such a convincing Elvis that oblivious casino guests constantly compliment him on it and even ask him to sign a record! The second section comes with less zest but is engaging in its own right as Russell bonds with the abandoned son of a woman he had a one-night-stand with. Played by David Kaye, he is a surprisingly sassy and quick-witted lad and his chemistry with Russell feels very real. The film conks out somewhat in the third section though with mindless action in plenty supply and a character who incredulously keeps carrying on despite being wounded, shot and even (literally) stung. The upbeat ending does not quite sit right either. This is a much better film than one would expect though considering its reputation (Razzie nominated for Worst Picture in its day). It may be true that the movie falls apart as it progresses but its treats and delights from early on stick vividly in the mind. The character trajectory of the young boy is especially interesting as goes from impersonating Jesse James and playing outlaw to actually becoming an outlaw, or assistant to one, during the course of the film.

3000 Miles to Graceland (2001) This is a tricky film to rate and review. Do I rate it based off of how entertaining it was or do I rate it based on how terrible it is. I guess I'll meet them somewhere in the middle. To start with the positives, 3000 Miles to Graceland is very entertaining and keeps you watching. It has a lot of cool effects and great action sequences, and a relatively decent storyline, though ridiculous in many ways. One other thing I have good to say about it is that it has some pretty good cinematography, not always, but often. With an all star cast like they have (personally I love Costner's character) its hard not give it a chance and I think it deserves people watching it, at least fans of action films. On the other hand, the film is actually pretty terrible. Very bad acting by most of the cast, and a lot of generic and stupid dialog. As I mentioned, it does have a good root idea for the storyline. However, trying to be cool, and more action packed weakened the plot and made the film get worse as it progresses. Top all this off with an obvious and yet unfitting ending and you have 3000 Miles to Graceland.I think a lot of people will like this film if they are going into it looking for a hardcore action film and not looking for an overall good film. It will keep you entertained but I think whether you like it or not you will probably agree that the action is the only thing holding the film together and making it watchable.6/10

Fresh out of prison a man meets up with his old gang and they dress as Elvis impersonators and go to Vegas and rob a casino. The head of the gang kills his members, but one gets away and takes the money along with his new girl and her kid. Of course the leader of the gang comes looking for his money and the adventure they partake in is a wild one. Love, money, and bullets flow in this action drama. It wasn't bad at all. This made about my 3rd or 4th time seeing it and I am always entertained while I watch it. The direction was pretty good and it's nice because we see so many changes in style through out the movie. It starts off with the credits in a c.g.i. fight between two scorpions and then the movie starts with some beautiful desert shots and a very isolated and relaxed mood. It is followed by Vegas and the bright lights and heavy paced action and several other relevant sets and locations lead up to the films finale shoot out in an abandon loading facility. The movies music is mixed, the score is okay, but the soundtrack is filled with everything from Kid Rock and Uncle Cracker to loads of crappy Elvis music.Like everything else the acting is mixed too. Of course, we have legends that were great like Kurt Russell, Kevin Pollak, Jon Lovitz and David Arquette and some mediocre actors like Courtney Cox and Kevin Costner in one of his better acting attempts. Ice-t doing his best to be a tough guy on the screen, but I find that he acts that way in real life and although a bit over the top here he still pulls it off as a bad*ss. We have some actors here who I wish had been replaced like the very dull Christian Slater, athletes that should not act like Howie Long and the bottom of the barrel of acting like that of Thomas Haden Church and Bookeem Woodbine. Last but not least I wanna praise the kid that played Jesse, David Kaye, he did a great job and I would love to know why he isn't more famous. This movie is fast paced and has a lot of action, some comedy and some lovey dovey going on. It was all and all a very nice effort and a good way to kill a couple of hours...4/10 stars
