MamaGravity good back-story, and good acting
mraculeated The biggest problem with this movie is it’s a little better than you think it might be, which somehow makes it worse. As in, it takes itself a bit too seriously, which makes most of the movie feel kind of dull.
Robert Joyner The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
metalgear-25259 This film tries to build tension but fails. The hostage that gets killed half way is seen to be dragged onto a stretcher and blanketed but can be seen as a legless prop!? The jokey banter with the reporters almost makes the film tilt into some light hearted comedy. This really is a serious situation that didn't need this kind of humour if you wanted to maintain a tense atmosphere. The biggest disappointment is the siege itself. One SAS soldier dangles and fumbles as he's stuck on his zip rope. After what feels like a good 5mins of the film cutting back and forth to other events, a soldier on the roof eventually cuts him loose!? Surely he could have cut himself free in a matter of seconds as part of his elite training? But no we are served this fumbling mess which really drags the pace of the siege into an amateurish halt. This isn't really a thing when you see the real footage. A poor attempt at tension building which really didn't work and made the long build up even more pointless. The moment a terrorist is identified trying to escape with civilians on the stairs was resolved with an arrest and not a point blank shooting with an mp5. It's a watchable film and sets up 1980 believably enough. But what this film should have had is sadly lacking due to shoddy directing. It prefers to take you on a fumbling trip of nostalgia and sentimental after thoughts rather than elevating pace, tension and fluid action it was so gasping for.
D H Not a bad movie. Not a strong story that keeps you hanging on but that isn't the films fault since it is telling a story so many of us in the UK will already know relatively well. What it does highlight is how poorly thought out our idea of responding to terrorism was back then, and also how much pure luck the SAS had since the operation to assault the embassy is a complete shambles in this movie - i mean seriously (spoilers) once you've detonated the roof explosive, if the terrorists were even half ready the hostages would already be dead by the time the SAS had gotten in to the building. I just hope they improved a heck of a lot since this event as all this did was make me lose all confidence they could rescue anyone with todays terrorists around. Mark Strong, he's always good. He's the kind of reliable actor that might not own the show but gives a performance every time that helps bring stability. Jamie is good too. I'm not persuaded he looks the part at all in this, but he does the job even if he's not quite right in terms of casting. The actress playing Kate Aide was a casting disaster though. So, overall a story most of us know, the SAS mystique debunked (they were bloody lucky) no cliff hangers, it carries you through, reasonable bit of theatre. 5 is a fair score imo.
WatchedAllMovies The movie is about a snowboarder getting lost in the mountains and the flash backs he sees before the end.Firstly although I like to see a happy ending, it's also difficult to root for this character for being so stupid. For example, you would turn off your cellphone if there's no signal to preserve battery so you can try elsewhere. But he didn't.You would also write large letters in the snow so that rescue helicopters can see them. He didn't. You would also stay in an open area so that you're easier to see. He runs around in the trees.I don't understand how the radio trick works. It's true radio receivers emits a weak signal, but for the rescue team to catch it, they have to be scanning the entire frequency spectrum, since they don't know what signal would be transmitted. No only that, they have to have multiple antennas in order to triangulate the location of the signal. And, how many snowboarders carry an AM/FM radio? I highly doubt the rescue team has this kind of setup. This makes me think this part of the movie is made-up. Possibly other parts are too. When they found the snowboarders, they didn't give him water or food. That's just cruel. And other than not dying, what did he do that is so inspiring?
