Billie Morin This movie feels like it was made purely to piss off people who want good shows
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
braddugg Here is a daringly dark movie by the director Vishal Bharadwaj who has given us dark tragedies like Maqbool, Omkara. This one like his earlier movie Blue Umbrella is an adaptation of a Ruskin Bond story 'Susanna's Seven Husbands' but while the earlier one was a simple tale this one is very complex psychology that has to be deciphered through the characters that come across.Acted really well by most actors that took part, specifically by Priyanka Chopra holding the limelight this film needs applause only for the gut of the director to pick a story in which there is one murder after another and mostly it's predictable and try to make it as a compelling one. (He tried only, did he succeed, is still a question, nevertheless he tried). You know the end result it shall be a murder of husband's by a woman because they are not nice to her and in what way makes the only difference. Surely at interval, most would have left the theatre coz you seem to know everything that shall happen. But I watched completely in one go and was pretty satisfied at the end.I can appreciate the attempt but yes, this story was far more predictable than thought of. A movie that can be watched surely but just for once. Rating: 2/5
Darren hawkins I just wanted to add my 10 cents worth of commentary about this film.June 2011, I was lucky enough to be in Shanghai, China, to attend the Shanghai International Film Festival. I was there as my debut feature film was accepted into the festival and I was invited (as director) to attend the festival.Well, enough of my bragging and name dropping as to HOW and WHY I was in Shanghai to see this film, onto my thoughts!Of the many tickets I was given to attend films at the festival, the plot summary of this film caught my eye and I knew something of its director. There were many "A List Hollywood movies" I could have seen, but I chose this one.I was NOT disappointed in my choice !While most people may think of Bollywood films as being colourful, sometimes humorous, at times a little cheesy, with a little too many "dance sequences" for their like, THIS FILM IS NOT ONE OF THEM !!!From the opening scene (it's quite confrontational from a visual and psychological standpoint .... I won't reveal WHAT you see, but let me say that Bhardwaj makes a bold statement with his on screen vision VERY quickly!!!), I knew this was going to NOT be your "stereotype" Bollywood fair .... and thank goodness for that!! Not that I have a problem with the "stereotype", I do enjoy them, "Dhoom 1 & 2" being favourites of mine, but I was not after that kind of film! The directing, cinematography, set design, costuming, story, sound design, location choices, editing, casting and acting ALL wove together to deliver a REAL cinematic experience.I found it difficult to find a "weak link" to be honest!I can ONLY say, that if you get the chance to see this on the "big screen", PLEASE do so (ok also see my movies too please!! .... they aren't YET at the same lush quality, but heck, not too bad considering the budget I have been able to work with!!!).If you can only see this on DVD or blu-ray, then, pick a night in which you can brew some coffee (or whatever drink takes your fancy), take the phone off the hook, sit back, relax and bathe in this movie.
user-787-45932 Saat Khoon Maaf-A Movie ReviewShe laughs, a certain laugh; too unique, too perfect; and thus commences a spiral staircase of Vishal Bharadwaj, Saat Khoon Maaf. The movie literally is a spiral staircase with every turn swift and predictable but Bharadwaj keeps on getting better and better and…Susanna Anna-Marie Johannes is a desperate love-seeker, wanting a perfect husband to complete herself but is challenged with a string of monstrosities in the form of her grooms. She swings and twirls in desperation and contempt trying to figure out her estranged marital life and fighting her womanhood. She reasons and applies and ultimately is left with no other option but murder.Welcome to Saat Khoon Maaf were passions becomes dark, humor becomes gruesome and characters explode on faces with such sincerity that reality and cinematic experience combine at a beautiful delta.Vishal Bharadwaj in his wholesome elegance displays a poetic saga on screen. Everything couples and takes form of a vintage painting painted in deep hues on a burnt canvas. It is the manner if not the matter which truly becomes the heart and soul of this rustic and dark comic thriller.First things first; Vishal Bharadwaj has raised his bar tremendously by displaying his sense and sensibility with style and charisma in encapsulating a next to impossible tale on screen. The screenplay by him and Mathew Robbins (can be read on the new edition of the book titled Saat Khoon Maaf) is so tough to put on. The director brings a tragic grandeur to the film with mere class and grace. The film is largely driven by the exhilarating Priyanka Chopra in what can be categorized as her best act ever. She is stoic, erotic, poised, perplexed, subtle and of course venomous and yet gullible. She roars in the distraught and sorrowful character of Susanna. The husbands are nicely picked with Anu Kapoor (Inspector Keematlal) shining out of the motley lot.The cinematographer creates scenes with such intense tension, especially the close-up shots of the characters. He creates a masterpiece much to the likes of Stanley Kubrick (the disgust and horror of A Clockwork Orange). Every scene, every still is picture perfect. The minute and intricate detailing of the film is mind-boggling. The sets, the chapels, the bungalow, the minuteness is tremendous. What lightens up the film is the careful lightning used with such consciousness with most of the scenes automatically becoming dark and adding to the atmosphere. One of the most tremendous scene of the movie is when the Russian husband is being warned of all the misadventures of his wife and she starts dancing around him. The scene enriches the viewer.Another factor is the music. It soothes and at the same time corrupts the movie with an indulging marvel. Vishal Bharadwaj composes both dark and definitive pieces, extensively fulfilling the demand of the horror genre.Summarizing, the movie is a stellar presentation of an out of the world experience which readily accounts of the masterpieces which can be woven on screen.
M MALIK starting Priyanka Chopra as Susana in 7 khoon maaf its is based on Ruskin Bonds novel susanas 7 husbands. .i saw a user posted here in Disscussion boards that some novels should never be adapted to movie & its true.this film is not that confusing but it lacks something in between.the director did his best but fails to create magic . . the actors & the whole team put hard work it this for me its not satisfying. scenes like a rockstar husband & a Muslim husband who rapes forces his own wife for sex,i mean dudes are you joking here..& what was the genere of this movie hmm comedy/thriller or horrible . tries to show too much art & detail to the viewer but its long & very slow.make yo go crazy & feel sorry for the actors. the music is average.only watch it for priyanka, john abraham, irrfan khan .my rating is 3/10
