Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

A film of deceptively outspoken contemporary relevance, this is cinema at its most alert, alarming and alive.

A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.

A Father, A Son: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2005) **** (out of 4)Incredibly funny and moving documentary takes a look at legend Kirk Douglas and his superstar son Michael. The documentary covers their personal lives ranging from tragedy in their lives to their film careers and it's a truly great chance at seeing the elder go into great discussion of his films and many lovers. From the start of the doc where the two are still arguing over Kirk not being casted by Michael in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest to the effect of Kirk's stroke. Everything is drawn out in perfect detail and nothing is left to the imagination. This is certainly one of the greatest documentaries out there that takes a good hard look at a legend and a superstar. Both men are honest, aren't afraid of the hard questions and the love they show one another, after years of bad times, is very touching. One of the highlights deal with the rumor of Michael being a sex addict to which Kirk says What's wrong with that? I've been one for years..
