Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??

This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

Amy Pearce (Liane Balaban) is happy to be a new reporter at the London Daily Post getting transferred from Toronto by owner Oldenberg (Maury Chaykin). Three months later, she would become tabloid fodder. Despite wanting to do serious reporting, chief editor Max Hardman puts her in the women's section to do style, fashion, celebrity, and gossip. Her new boss Jemima Green makes her push the coffee cart. Billy Marshall is the seemingly-arrogant award-winning reporter. Her flatmates are party people Poppy Young and Sami Rahim. She meets Edward Walpole who crashes into her bed. He and her flatmates introduce her to a life of partying. When she finally gets to write, her boss steals her byline. The production is rather middling TV movie. The story is basic single gal fish out of water rom-com. None of it is that good other than Balaban. She's a very appealing actress. She makes the material better. She's smart and really likable. Otherwise, there is nothing new here. The writing is not exceptionally funny. Overall, it's slightly above pass.

Unfortunately due to a timing screw up I only saw the last half, which is a real shame because it is a delightful movie with both romantic and dramatic tones. The story is basically a love story. Canadian girl goes to England to work as a reporter, meets another reporter she hates and eventually falls for him after having to deal with several British upper crust cads. The lead, Liane Balaban, is a Toronto born and raised young woman certainly shone in the part. She certainly made the movie come alive for me.A fun watch or great date movie if you're 40 years younger than I am.
