BroadcastChic Excellent, a Must See
Griff Lees Very good movie overall, highly recommended. Most of the negative reviews don't have any merit and are all pollitically based. Give this movie a chance at least, and it might give you a different perspective.
Raymond Sierra The film may be flawed, but its message is not.
Cheryl A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.
MaddyB I found it to be beautiful in a weird; indie punk kind of way. I thought it was well shot with strong supporting characters and a sense of inspiration through it all. Its definitely worth the watch. I especially enjoyed the character development that Emma's character goes through when she meets the kind of people she hadn't been exposed to in her liberal arts college. The slow progression from privileged and sheltered to open, fun, and less pompous than she was in the beginning felt genuine. The poetry that's read is slightly lacking, that is my only complaint. All in all, its beautiful
ConsistentlyFalconer An easy-to-watch little gem, this. Emma Roberts gives a strong leading performance as an over-confident, incredibly naïve young poet. Evan Peters is as charmingly cool and likable as ever; Armando Riesco plays his role as a human being, not a caricature... John Cusack, naturally, plays John Cusack, but he plays him very very well. Speaking of Cusack's character, I'm delighted that the message that he gives our heroine is not the usual "You can be whoever you want to be" claptrap you tend to find in these films. Because of the central premise - one's adult talent doesn't necessarily lie where our childhood dreams wish it did - Amy's relationship with her parents is real and heartbreaking. You really feel for them more than anybody, despite their short screen time.yetanotherfilmreviewblog.tumblr.com
JÄnis Locis Well, the movie isn't all that bad, but c'mon give poor Emma a different role, in every single movie, she plays the same character, she is the troubled teenager, who has problems with her parents or has mental problems and later on she falls in love with a guy and in the end they happily stay together. In this movie, the falling in love thing was kind of secondary and the movie wasn't really about that until the very end.Amy (Emma Roberts), is a teenage girl, who is trying to become a successful poet, but her work hasn't been published yet, in any magazine, for that matter. In the movie, Amy was in 100% of the scenes, there was not a conversation between people without her interaction, the movie was only about her.The good thing is, the movie isn't actually all about Amy's work in a porn store, from the description of the movie, it seems like it is going to be another teenage movie filled with nasty sex jokes, but itš not the case.Amy's idol Rat Billings is not very friendly around her, Amy to him is just a crazy fan, who is too young and dumb to really understand life and what poetry is all about. The movie is kinda flat. Really, the ending is very basic and not interesting at all, Emma needs to expand her acting career and start playing some other characters, this is really getting old already.
leonblackwood Review: This is a typical teenage movie about a girl who is dying to become a poet and ends up taking a job in a porn store to pay for her education. Although the movie is quirky and in some parts, slightly funny, I did find it uninteresting and the main character was a bit over the top. She constantly seeks John Cusack's praise, which becomes tedious after a while, and she just ends up making a fool of herself. When she finally comes to terms with the fact that she might have to think of another profession, she finally gets on with every day life without her head in the clouds and she manages to find love. Even at this point, I still was a bit bored with the whole movie and I was waiting for a twist or something interesting to happen. It's a bad attempt by the director to try and make a trendy movie which is supposed to be light hearted fun. In all, it's nothing that amazing! Round-Up: Judging by the money that this movie made, it really didn't go down well with audiences and I was really surprised that John Cusack took on this project. Maybe it was a favour for the director. I did find the transvestite funny but that was the only positive thing in the movie. John Cusack didn't really look like he was giving his all, and he was a bit of a prick throughout the movie. I haven't seen any of the other characters before and I doubt that I will be seeing them again. Emma Roberts who has starred in movies like We Are The Millers and It's Kind Of A Funny Story, which I really liked, has a limited range to her acting which should grow with the more roles that she gets. Anyway, the movie wasn't that good and not that funny.Budget: N/A Worldwide Gross: $20,000 (Terrible!)I recommend this movie to people who are into there teenage movies about a girl who wants to become a poet and ends up working in a porn shop to fund her habit. 3/10
