Blucher One of the worst movies I've ever seen
SunnyHello Nice effects though.
Aedonerre I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
Hattie I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Sam Panico Director Claudio Fragasso refers to this film as the "last gasp" of Italian zombie movies. If you're expecting Zombi, well, let's not forget the movies that Claudio has blessed us with, both by himself and with Bruno Mattei: Beyond Darkness/La Casa 5, Troll 2, RoboWar, Rats: Night of Terror, The Other Hell and Shocking Dark. The movie starts as researchers discover that the natives are practicing voodoo, so they kill the priest, who places a curse that brings the dead back to life before he dies. Only a young girl named Jenny (soon to be played by Candice Daly, Liquid Dreams) survives thanks to an enchanted necklace her parents gave her.Years later, she returns to the island to find out exactly what happened. And she isn't alone - she's brought a gang of mercs with her. There's Tommy (Don "The Dragon" Wilson!), Dan (Jim Gaines, American Ninja), Rod and Louise, Rod's girlfriend. And then there are also some hikers - Chuck (played by 80's gay porn star Jeff Stryker), David (Massimo Vanni/Alex McBride, who is in a ton of Italian exploitation as an actor and stuntman) and Mad - who have found the underground temple where the curse was originally created.Of course, they bring the curse back and David is eaten and Mad killed. Rod soon gets bitten and ends up killing his girlfriend. David comes back and kills Dan. Seriously, our cast is pretty much cannon fodder. Tommy volunteers to stay behind and blow the base up to take out the zombies as Jenny and Chuck run back to the cave. There, Chuck is attacked and killed by zombies while Jenny removes her protective necklace and becomes a super zombie that can rip out its own eyeball and survive. And then, Fulci style, the movie just ends. The cave set looks a ton like the sets of City of the Living Dead. And the movie really jumps all over the place. But does any other zombie movie have as catchy a theme song as this? Alright, does any zombie movie not called Return of the Living Dead have a song this good?
oisin boyd Good gory fun.The zombies are very similar to the zombies of Lamberto Bava's "Demons".Gore-8/10 -the gore effects on the zombies are very good.its a pity the plot can't get around its own clichés. Acting-4/10 . if you want to see some good acting go elsewhere. soundtrack-4/10,Movie soundtrack-typical cheesy 80s work. Awful soundtrack.your typical overly echoed drums are present. Plot-5/10- not the worst of them allpsychological effect-3/10 -this movie was a funny to me because i am desensitized to gore and horror,it has nothing on the movie "demons" but also robs a lot from the "Demons" makeup effects. fun factor-6/10, despite the bad acting, bad soundtrack and clichéd plot i will admit i enjoyed watching this movieThis movie deserves a 6 out of ten. if you are not a fan of Horror movies or gore then don't watch. It doesn't have the Hollywood treatment that most people are used to.
amesmonde A woman inadvertently goes back to a zombie infested island where her parents were killed.Writer /director Claudio Fragasso wild abysmal sequel has very little link to Fulci's Zombi. Fragasso's film seems predominantly like Mattei's Virus/ Hell of the living Dead / Night of the Zombies (1980). Like Night of the Zombies was a Dawn of the Dead wannabe, this is another bad cheese festival of zombie nonsense. While the phrase so bad it's good can be be applied to Night of the Zombies, Zombi 4 is plain borderline with a few redeeming features. Mainly some make up effects and lead cast. There's awfully executed effects, shoddy lighting, sub-par directing, illogical storytelling and coupled with daft exposition dialogue in every scene, at times its simply cheap but not cheerful. While fun, talking zombies, guns, candles falling over and jumping undead add up to very little. The 80's rock soundtrack of is probably its best redeeming feature. As another cash-in follow up to Zombie Flesheaters it's slightly disappointing.
gavin6942 What do you get if you mix an island of scientists, a voodoo witch doctor, zombies... and then open the third door to Hell (apparently neglecting the fact that Fulci had already opened all seven doors)? Well, you get "After Death".The first thing you'll notice about this film is the 80s metal soundtrack thrown together by Alberto Festa (including his song, repeated throughout the film, "Living After Death"). Not unlike other 80s Italian horror films, this seems to make sense even though it really doesn't.The second thing you'll notice is that this film features gay porn star Jeff Stryker. (Unless, of course, you don't know gay porn stars... then you won't notice at all.) This film is greatly under-appreciated by audiences, I fear. I loved it, and it seems that the hardcore fans of Italian horror do, too, despite the general agreement that this film fails. Jim Harper says the film features "fast-paced, sharply edited action scenes that rely heavily on excessive gore", and despite the fact "the story is patently absurd" the film is "gruesome enough to please gorehounds." Likewise, Jay Slater praises the film when he says the picture is "a blast of energy, rippling with violent action and awash with gore", an "energetic splatter picture in the spirit of Herschell Gordon Lewis" This is absolutely right. While trying to pass itself off as a sequel to "Dawn of the Dead", it has much more in common with Lamberto Bava's "Demons". The splatter effects and rock music make it perfect for this series.Director Claudio Fragasso laments that the most intense gore had been stripped by the censors. He also insists that the "special effects were all made laboriously by hand", which I think pays off -- most of the zombies are remarkable. What gore was cut is unknown to me... it's already a fairly gory picture as is... to increase it would make this one for the record books. If you only know Fragasso from the "best worst movie" "Troll 2" or don't know his work at all, this is a fine introduction. Taking the zombie jungle island formula many others have used and mixing it with the gore and colorful blood of Lamberto Bava, "After Death" is a film worth catching, and at least for me, owning.
