I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Clever, believable, and super fun to watch. It totally has replay value.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Amitabh Bachchan is a brilliant actor who is known for blockbuster movies like Sholay and Deewar gave several brilliant performances in his entire career. At times, his movies worked only because of his presence but at times, the films worked because of his presence and the content. However, there were some films which flopped at the box office despite being superb and Agneepath is one of those Amitabh Bachchan films. The movie should've been a hit but it flopped but Amitabh Bachchan got the national award for his performance and the film got cult status eventually.Agneepath tells the story of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan who is the son of Master Deenanath Chauhan and Suhasini Chauhan. He lives in a village called Mandwa where his father is a school master and has a good reputation. Master Chauhan has ensured that no illegal activities will take place in this village and this angers Kancha Cheena, the antagonist who wants to operate in Mandwa. Master Chauhan is framed for killing one of his school teachers and he is brutally beaten to death by the angry villagers, Vijay, his sister, and his mom leave Mandwa and arrive in Bombay to escape the wrath of the villagers and Kancha Cheena. As time flies, Vijay understands that in order to survive in this world, one needs to take the path of crime. Vijay grows up to become a gangster but his strong principles prevent him from dealing drugs. Vijay's bosses don't like this and have him shot several times, he surprisingly survives the attack. Vijay starts murdering his bosses and he becomes the king of this gold smuggling empire. Will Vijay's path of crime take him towards the enemy he is looking for, Kancha Cheena? I'm not going to reveal it, watch this awesome classic and find out.Direction by Mukul Anand is terrific, the entire movie has been handled well and there are actually no visible snags. The film does drag but each and every scene leaves an impact. The film has been directed well throughout the 2 and a half hour duration. The climax though prolonged is awesome and the last scene is touching. Therefore, this is Mukul Anand's best directional venture.Amitabh Bachchan is awesome, this is his best performance in my opinion. The expressions are superb and the dialogues he mouths are well delivered by him. On the whole, an excellent performance. Mithun Chakraborty is good and he supports Bachchan well. Neelam is good and the same can be said for Madhavi. Danny Denzongpa delivers very well and this is his best performance in a negative role. The rest provide excellent support.Action is superb with realistic stunts and there are no flying stunts like the stupid south remakes have nowadays. Music is good for it's time. My favourite song is the Narial Pani Wala song in the discotheque which was a funny situation as well.On the whole, Agneepath is a fantastic movie with a couple of flaws which don't harm the movie by a longshot. The only unfortunate thing is that the film flopped.

Those people who are saying that Agneepath(1990) was a Bollywood remake of Scarface(1983) probably don't know that it was itself a remake of 1932 Hollywood movie of the same name starring Paul Muni and George Raft, produced by Howard Hughes, directed by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson, and written by Ben Hecht based on the 1929 novel of the same name by Armitage Trail. The plot was loosely like this Big Louis Costillo (Harry J. Vejar), the leading crime boss of the South Side, is killed, apparently by Tony Camonte (Paul Muni) acting on the orders of Johnny Lovo (Osgood Perkins). Lovo then takes control of the South Side with Tony as his key lieutenant, selling large amounts of illegal beer to speakeasies and muscling in on bars run by rival outfits. However, Lovo repeatedly warns Tony not to mess with the Irish gangs led by O'Hara who run the North Side. Tony soon begins to ignore these orders, shooting up bars belonging to O'Hara, and attracting the attention of the police and rival gangsters. Lovo begins to realize that Tony is out of control and has ambitions to take his position. Meanwhile, Tony pursues Lovo's girlfriend Poppy (Karen Morley) with increasing confidence. At first, she is dismissive of him, but pays him more attention as his reputation rises.Tony eventually decides to declare war and take over the North Side, and sends one of his best men and close friend, the coin flipping Guino Rinaldo (George Raft) to kill O'Hara in a florists that he uses as his base. This brings heavy retaliation from the North Side gangs now led by Gaffney (Boris Karloff) and armed with Tommy guns, a weapon that instantly captures Tony's dark imagination. Tony leads his own forces to virtually destroy the North Side gangs and take over their market, using tactics such as those used on the Valentines Day Massacre. This proves too much for Lovo, whose organization has been effectively hijacked by his ambitious deputy, and he arranges for Tony to be assassinated while driving in his car. Tony manages to escape this attack, and he and Rinaldo kill Lovo in revenge, leaving Tony as the undisputed boss of the city.Tony's actions have provoked a public outcry and the forces of the law are slowly closing in. Tony's problems increase when his sister Cesca (Ann Dvorak), whom he is overprotective of, secretly marries his friend Guino. After discovering the two of them together, Tony kills his friend leaving his sister distraught. This provides the police the opportunity they'd been waiting for and they move to arrest Tony for Guino's murder. Tony holes up in his house and prepares to shoot it out. His sister comes, planning to kill him, but ends up helping him to fight the police. When she is killed by a stray bullet, Tony's confidence collapses. As the apartment fills with tear gas, he leaves down the stairs and is confronted by the police. Tony pleads in cowardly fashion for his life then seems to make a break for it, but is mowed down by police fire -- apparently suicide by cop. (Just check the net)

Totally melodramatic, loud to the hilt, Amitabh looking weird in different colored contact lenses, and trying to copy Marlon Brando of Godfather, this movie badly flopped at the box.People did not like this new avatar of Amitabh, and missed his usual tone of voice. the repetition of Vijay Deenanath Chavan, is too boring. Though the cast included some good actors, they were wasted in emoting unrealistic, loud scenes, and delivering flowery dialogs. the only believable and endearing performance, surprisingly, comes from Mithun Chakravarty, as a coconut vendor, who is actually a double graduate ! He looks sprightly, and adds humor, as well as some realistic stuff, in this otherwise illogical fare. this movie is produced by simply keeping the gallery in mind, but that too, didn't work out ! too much focus on Amitabh's presence, has marred the film's appeal. Poor editing, a weak plot line, and Amitabh's patent dialog delivery , as if he is enjoying it, has resulted in people turning their back to this multi-star extravaganza . Avoidable .

Agneepath is one of the best movie of Amitabh yet. Same can be said about Mithun and Danny too. Rohini also played the role of Vijay's mother perfectly well. The movie has been inspired by Scarface.Vijay's father is wrongly implicated in a scandal and is humiliated by the villagers. Not able to tolerate the same he commits suicide. Vijay at the young age takes the responsibility of his sister and mother. As usual in our world, it is very difficult to sustain livelihood in an honest way, Vijay becomes a gangster. A dreaded gangster whom the city is scared of.Kancha is another gangster who is wanted by Police in several cases. Once he falls into the trap of Vijay and is handed over to Police but then escapes unhurt since Police didn't have enough evidence against him. Now Vijay & Kancha are sworn enemies and are after each other's blood. Vijay's only aim in life is to avenge his father's death. So it was only natural for him to run after Kancha's blood when he knows that Kancha was the person for whom his father was killed.
