Highly Overrated But Still Good

Good story, Not enough for a whole film

The film was still a fun one that will make you laugh and have you leaving the theater feeling like you just stole something valuable and got away with it.

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Not the best, but certainly not the worst romantic comedy I've seen. The movie does get a few good laughs out of you, while also gets some valid points across. Like, for example, makes fun of media over-blowing their news stories just to get better ratings.
There are some cringe-worthy scenes which do make you question the sense of their reality, but hey, it's a comedy after all, so things don't need to be taken too seriously.
For a light-hearted comedy the movie does a decent job of entertaining you.

Well, let me just rephrase that a bit. A definite contender for the worst major film ever produced. There certainly have been worse films, but generally only those made by virtual amateurs on independent budgets or fly-by-night film studios. From 1994's "Speed" through 2007's "The Proposal", Sandra Bullock was one of my favorite actresses. And then this film came out, and sense then I haven't watched any of her newer films. For me, she simply lost the golden touch.I have to admit that it doesn't help that her co-star here is Bradley Cooper...never one of my favorites. Thomas Haden Church...this is a professional actor? Ken Jeong...way overrated. DJ Qualls as Howard is interesting here...a quirky actor that brings something interesting to many of his roles. Katy Mixon was pretty good. And it was interesting to see Howard Hesseman as Bullock's character's father. The plot here actually seemed to have potential -- a slightly weird young woman begins stalking an imagined lover. Okay. That could be funny. But this director attacked the film as if he was on meth. Waaaaaaaaaaaay over the top...and that's what ruined the film. No wonder this was a popular Raspberry award winner.I don't say this often...but I wish I hadn't watched this film.

This movie is one of the MORE INTELLIGENT ROMANTIC COMEDIES THAT DOES NOT TAKE ITSELF TOO SERIOUSLY. That conscious approach of the film is both risky and refreshing in my opinion. A lot of reviewers who gave this film a bad review point to the supposed lack of plot and the great annoyance they felt for the main character Mary. Mary's overbearing attitude plays a crucial role in effectively conveying the film's message which it narrates in the end, in a form of self reflection by the protagonist. The message is this.... Will Shortz, the creator of the New York Times crossword puzzles said that "we all have an inherent need to fill empty spaces" Mary realizes towards the end of the movie that the whole obsession with Steve is driven by this need to fill a void in her life, that she like many of us, refused to recognize. We fill those holes in our otherwise happy lives with different things like work, exercising, eating, and even a passionate albeit baseless belief of a strong romantic connection with someone. Eventually, Mary realized that this internal void need not be filled with the thought of one great love, like many of the rom com movies try to feed us, but rather by the many people we meet, the old and new friendships we make, and the many stumbles we'll have as we journey through life.

All About Steve is a quirky comedy that does not quiet fly yet its a lot better than another Rom-Com starring Jennifer Aniston and the like.I would never say when Sandra Bullock burst on the scene in the early 1990s that she would be still around 20 years later. She is suitable eye candy but has the likability factor which the audience likes and she has struck around mixing comedy, romance, drama and even action adventure. For this film she got a Golden Raspberry award, the next day she got an Oscar for The Blind Side. Here she plays Mary Horowitz, a socially awkward crossword puzzle writer whose parents set her up on a blind date, who turns out to be a handsome news cameraman played by Bradley Cooper and she decides to pursue him whilst he is out on a story. This is an unconventional, odd comedy, rather uneven with some black humour and some slapstick humour. Mary has a good heart but comes across as mad as a box of frogs and almost stalkerish as she gads about the country with her red boots pursuing Steve. The audience is more likely to pity her rather than sympathise with her.The film did not do too well at the box office, given the cast people expected this to be a straightforward rom-com or chick flick which this is certainly not.
