FuzzyTagz If the ambition is to provide two hours of instantly forgettable, popcorn-munching escapism, it succeeds.
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
maveltre-566-900040 I don't need fast-paced movies, nor light and bright ones, so when I say that this one was slow and dark, know where it's coming from. I love a good moody movie, but with this one, if there hadn't been voiceover during some of it, I would have fast-forwarded through most of the scenes with no conversation. Or better yet, have chosen something else at the library. There have got to be better movies about rich, dysfunctional families and intrigue, and better vehicles for Kirsten Dunst (whose facial expressions were impressively subtle, IMHO) and Ryan Gosling. However, seeing Kristen Wiig and and Nick Offerman in such different roles from their normal persona was entertaining, but their scenes were incidental. On a side note, I wonder if anyone on set called Kirsten or Kristen by the wrong name?
Finbar-1 Let me start real quick by saying this is my first IMDb review, and that I think IMDb is one of the best web sites on the internet. We watched "All Good Things" I think mainly because of the hype about Ryan Gosling, and while I believe he is a good actor he seems to choose parts that are so very slow that they leave the movie quite boring. In All Good Things, he plays a troubles guy who tries to change his life in order to please his father, but not to the same level of pleasure for his wife.We are given little insight into why he is the way he is (other than his father's expectations) or why he does what he does. This leads the viewer to be as frustrated with him as his wife appears to be. The twist at the end also leaves us wondering what the heck really happened, but not in an interesting "make your own conclusions" kind of a way. That said, if you like Mr. Gosling's acting style (and the slow style of his choice in directors) in previous movies such as "Beyond the Pines" and "Drive" (which I liked more than "Good Things"), you might like this one as well.
l_rawjalaurence Based on a real-life case involving a New York real estate family, ALL GOOD THINGS centers on the life of David Marks (Ryan Gosling), who has been permanently psychologically scarred by the sight of the death of his mother at seven years old. He meets and marries beautiful blonde Katie McCarthy (Kirsten Dunst), and the two of them settle down to a life running a health food store in Vermont. Soon Digby is recalled by his dominant father (Frank Langella) into the family 'business,' which involves a multitude of shady deals. David returns to New York, and his true nature emerges. Told over a period of thirty years, ALL GOOD THINGS boasts a strong central performance from Gosling as David, with good support from the other two principals. Yet its narrative is sluggish, to say the least; there are too many dissolves from one sequence to another, accompanied by the kind of idyllic music and photography that looks and sounds good but holds up the development of the plot. The décor is stunning; but the story has a rather insubstantial feel about it.
Charlton Alonso Charlton Alonso played the role of Young Daniel. Too cute! Trying to link the IMDb for him... He did not receive credit for the role. He played the brother of Young David. Young David was played by Tristan Comeau. Tristan did receive credit for the role. The boys were in the scene of the birthday party flashback. Charlton is getting on a horse and shooting his mom with a fake gun. He is also playing tennis and swimming in a pool with his brother and mother. He is seen as the only actor on the screen for parts of the flashback. He was also linked to the IMDb page for the movie. Charlton did not receive any credit at the end of the movie. However, would it be possible to please link him now for credit on his IMDb page. He has established film credits already and would be so appreciative if he could get linked to the movie's IMDb page. Thank you so much!!!
