It's an amazing and heartbreaking story.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

Finding (old) footage is not really something that comes surprising this day. Actually with all the cameras around and people filming rather than enjoying certain moments, it is no surprise. As there are almost none in the story we get served here. It's the concept of people recording their own doom (sometimes even demise). The acting is OK, and characters have a certain past that is being revealed during the running time of the movie. It's not that it's really bad or anything, but I reckon people get wary of those movies (meaning the found footage sub-genre if you want to call it that). It's predictable and the ending might either have the punch you were waiting for or just confirm what you were thinking all along

I'm a huge a fan of Slenderman and the other Creepypastas, so as you can imagine I've re watched the Marble Hornet entries about 10 times. Before I watched this movie I looked up reviews and saw that they all say that this movie wasn't good, but I continued watching because this is the only Slenderman movie I could find. Let me tell you that those reviews were lies(at least in my opinion) The movie captured Slenderman and the Marble Hornet entries perfectly, besides the fact that you could only see him through the camera but they could have put that so it was a reason the characters kept recording. Honestly this movie deserves SOOOOO much more credit. It was an amazing story, had great acting, Slenderman looked bomb AF(his features look perfect), and the recording and video distortion was PERFECT. Honestly I can't believe it doesn't have a higher rating.

Positives: Fast forwarding. Negatives: 1. Opening credits Anchor Bay distributors, known for cheap. 2. More shaky camera - I thought that technique had run its course and died years ago. 3. Journalist investigates foreclosed or abandoned homes to show what people leave behind. Boring except of course there's one house that the inhabitants seem to have vanished. Well, that plot has been done many times. And, to borrow further there is the customary box of video tapes that our journalist (and, of course, tag-along camera man) get to investigate for clues. At least that goes a small way toward explaining why there's a camera following everyone around. 4. Now for the supposedly scary part - there are a few times (mostly toward the end of course) of three or so seconds (much longer and you'll break out laughing) where some guy with a piece of cloth over his head (see photo) stands in the background. That's it. Well, someone dies (gee, who would have guessed) but it's a pretty nondescript death. 5. End of story. Not scary unless you're six. Recent alternative, if looking for someone dying, is "Faults" - a bit more intelligent.

Alright. Is this a perfect adaptation of the web series? No, not exactly. There's a lot changed, none of the original characters are present, and some of the lore of The Operator has been changed and warped to fit the story of the film. And that is completely fine.Marble Hornets the Web Series, for those who are not aware of it, is a horror/thriller series that spans the length of roughly five years. That's a lot of content, and, if everything were followed to the letter, would be hard to translate into a full length movie. A lot of it would be condensed or even completely removed, which as we all know, does. not. work. (A Series of Unfortunate Events, Percy Jackson, etc.)So, the filmmakers took a bold step and just... wrote their own thing. But it works. Yes, they changed the lore of what the symbol means. Yes, they changed how the operator works. But it all works in favor of the story that is being told. It's well acted, well shot, and the editing is pretty decent. It's something I've gone back and watched, more than once, and I find little things every time. I would highly recommend it.
