This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

When your friend invited you to dinner & said you will eat an expensive unique food & you are so interested & when you remove the food cover you found a burger sandwich..that's exactly what happened to me when I watch this movie, this is one of the worst films & blacklisted for me.The story came out to us or to me incoherent & in-compact.The movie does not meet my expectations, also we didn't see any super hero in the movie. If I want to be kind to this movie I can say only one point that may intercede the movie & it was the message I received personally from it which says even if you are in the land of dreams(USA) & you don't have the capability to succeed nothing will help you even if you have supernatural powers, but after all don't call this movie "American hero" you can call it "idling" instead.

If you're looking for something in the lines of the Avengers universe you'll most likely be disappointed.Even though Stephen Dorff's character technically has some superpowers of sorts (levitation through mind-control) he doesn't really use it all that much most of the time.He prefers getting drunk and high over chasing bad guys and that's the main focus of the movie, even though sure there is a little action in it but not close enough to warrant this movie having action as the main genre listed (or listed at all).No it's more a mockumentary drama-comedy about a 'loser' douche-bag who just happen to have some supernatural powers (don't expect a new 'Chronicle' either though when I tell you that, again the lead is more impressed with the power of weed and alcohol than his levitation powers) They definitely had the potential to do more with the script but it was watchable at least.Eddie Griffin plays his best friend and he's in it for most of the scenes so if you like him it will be an extra treat.

That's the story of my life, as it is for many. "I could quit bad habits and write a novel, but I'm stuck in my couch watching other peoples dream instead, as the years go by." I'm going to show this movie to my young neighbour following the same path: "I'll be an astronaut one day, but right now, I'll just have a joint in the bath tub." Steven Dorff is great in this role: sincere and sober (his acting, not the character). He is highly credible as a drunk cokehead and pothead. The realism is reinforced by the handshake camera and a couple of winks at the cameraman. I'm a fan of inclusions of supernatural into a realistic story: a movie is a fiction, so why being limited by the lows of physics? On the other hand, when a movie starts talking supernatural, it usually becomes a central point, leaving the characters soulless. Making digressions from a realistic comedy into a magical world is not common, except in some Latin American movies. They are often misunderstood by the viewers, as they aren't complying to knows standards. When lows of physics are breached to serve the story, I find it perfectly acceptable. Aren't teleportation, flying and telekinesis common in night dreams?

One of the most interesting indi films and quite difficult to explain but will give it a try. Melvin (stephen dorff) is a beer loving drug taking party goer but with the advantage of having super powers after a court case bans him from seeing his son melvin and his best friend lucille (eddie griffin) attempt to change their ways so melvin can get his son back. The comedy is dark and random but the way this film is shot is brilliant as its in the style of a documentary. Stephen dorff has kept himself busy over the years and not done anything outstanding since Blade 1998, American hero will put him back in Hollywood's window as it shows just how good of a actor he is.
