Very well executed

This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.

Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.

American Pie: Band Camp is not great, but it's not terrible either. For a straight to DVD sequel, this really wasn't all that bad. Compared to the atrocity The Naked Mile, Band Camp is Oscar Worthy. It sticks to the humor of the original American Pie movies and does have some funny moments. But still, it does suffer from the typical straight to DVD movie flaws. Most of the jokes in the film are chuckle's with a few stronger laughs in between. However, many of the jokes also just were too juvenile to be funny or just fell flat because they weren't funny. If you're a fan of the original trilogy, then it's worth a watch, but you won't want to revisit it a second time. If you're a fan of the original films, than I think you will at least find some enjoyment in this.

I've have just finished watching this movie and as an American Pie fan, this is a fair addition to the series. It is not quite as good as the first three in the series but I was not expecting it to be. The film is based around Matt Stifler (Steve Stifler's younger brother) Jim's dad is in this film quite often and Sherman makes a cameo appearance too as the councellor. The humour in the film feels slightly more immature than the first three with the gags/key scenes being less visual and many of the characters in the film are wasted; they are given too little to do. Matt Stifler is more a rude guy than Steve Stifler and less funny. The problem with this film is that it just focuses mainly on Matt Stifler whereas the first three American Pie's focused on more characters. There are some funny scenes but not as much as the first three films. It simply doesn't have the same magic as the first three. So don't expect this to be like the first three American Pie's cuz its not, its different

Whoever owns the rights to "American Pie" is being pretty capitalistic about it. You can name twenty characters Stifler if you want, it doesn't change the fact that this is a rather uninspired effort to cash in which bizarrely works. You can judge it standing by itself, but just keep in mind it was never intended to stand by itself. So here Stifler's brother Matt (who's not even the same guy from "American Pie 2") is punished for pulling an on all levels pretty lame prank. The Sherminator meanwhile has become a school counselor and sends him to band camp, which as it turns out, currently employs Jim's Dad. It's like bad fan fiction came to life. So naturally he pulls more pranks on the rivals like, two. They get back at him like, once. The rest is filled up with very bothersome references to the actual "American Pie"-movies, semi-naked chicks and extremely irritating love subplots including a horrendously clichéd nerd you just can't possibly side with. Add a last fifteen minutes that's like the Siberian prison edit of "Family Matters" and you start wondering why it's still somewhat enjoyable. Perhaps it's the presence of Eugene Levy in yet another movie he's too talented for. The sunscreen gag was pretty good too I guess. This "American Pie presents" crap needs to end though, even if you don't give any thought to how a movie can present anything, it's still a thorn in the eye to the franchise.

Sequels are funny thing in the business, however one can tell when a movie franchise got past it's prime and it's now featured in direct-to-video sequels. I normally don't dwell into this world, but I decided to give it a shot. American Pie: Band Camp is a weak attempt at comedy, it only hurts itself by having some of the original characters from the earlier movies. Stiffler's younger brothers gets sent to band camp after messing up a rehearsal, but tries to make smutty hidden camera videos from the band camp members. I barely laughed at the film, was only grossed out by a few scenes(which have become mandatory in teen comedies), but one does wonder how weak this looks compared to Superbad which honestly relies more on dialog to get it's point across. Also Stiffler's brother's cursing doesn't work anymore, Sean William Scott(the true hero of American Wedding) already squeeze the last of the American Pie funny bone juice out of this franchise. The actors make it clear that this is a direct-to-video release and I'm surprised Eugene Levy and Timothy Stack would even bother to show up on a movie, did Levy appear just tell us that this is an American Pie movie? Never mind, if you like teen comedies, don't bother. It's not worth the rental.
