ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
InformationRap This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.
Tyreece Hulme One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Staci Frederick Blistering performances.
Eric Stevenson A lot of people don't seem to realize that National Lampoon had literally dozens of films under their name. Looking back, it does in fact seem like this was the best. This movie is a great example of how everything continually builds on itself. There's this one scene where guys are shown hitting golf balls into various things, including a pot of soup. Later, we see Bluto finding that same golf ball in a pot of soup. Then he eats it!I have heard many goofy stories about college fraternities. I admit that I have barely seen any college comedy movies. There just don't seem to be that many famous ones around. My favorite joke is probably at the end when a playboy bunny crashes into a boy's room causing him to say, "Thank you, God!". It helps that we can great music throughout the whole film. The fact that the characters are quite likeable helps. ***1/2
MarkAmovie This film just does not hold up. I can without a doubt believe that at least up until 1990 this film probably was one of the funniest around, but once the Robin Williams, the Jim Carreys and Eddie Murphy's broke out, this film lost it's touch. Credit given to the actors and all the people who worked on this movie as it probably was one of the very first films to tackle college life in a comedy setting like this. Belushi gives an incredible performance and for me is the only character that kept me in the film. The cafeteria scene is a truly great piece of film but for me that's as far as it goes.I think that everyone should at least see this movie once, but I don't think that I will watch it again anytime soon.
grantss Delta Tau Chi is the most anarchic fraternity on the Faber College campus. Its students have the worst grades and the fraternity is often a source of embarrassment to the college. Egged on by a rival fraternity, Dean Vernon Wormer is determined to shut them down. All he needs is an excuse.Yeah, I know this is regarded as some sort of comedy classic. Hard to see why though. Not that funny, mostly silly and random. Maybe the antics on display were out-there and subversive for 1978 so that explains it. In 2017 it just seems juvenile. Or maybe you have to be younger than 15 to enjoy it...
imdb2-5 Warning - if you have seen a TV broadcast of this film, chances are you have had many of the best scenes censored. As if the physical comedy isn't hilarious enough, this is by far the greatest ever interpretation of the childish, immature and ridiculous mentality and culture that was college fraternities. Some of this nonsense still remains but obviously this over the top romp defined the strange era and culture of the 60s. This film is merely about two young new college students who pledge a rowdy fraternity and, after a multitude of excess, decide to take revenge on the snooty wealthy fraternity and the university administration that wants to get rid of them.As the top review here states, this movie is often imitated and borrowed from but is never ever close to the original. This is because the talent level is so strong, the lines are general witty and the originality of being first stands out. It's fresh. For those who didn't like it, I doubt they'd like any movie of similar, childish and ridiculous nature. But the topic is what it is. So be forewarned that the language, lewdness and immaturity is what this movie is about. And if you have no patience for it, don't bother watching. It's not a documentary. You're not going to learn anything about history except peer a little into what life was like back then taken to some extremes, although less in some instances than you'd believe.Lines like "Assume the position" and "Thank you sir may I have another" are just two of numerous quotes that have become commonplace in contemporary American speech. Don't believe me? Search Google and you'll see many people ask the origin of these lines. It's a fun romp. Enjoy it for what it is. Oh... and the music is fantastic if you love the 60s...
