Taraparain Tells a fascinating and unsettling true story, and does so well, without pretending to have all the answers.
SanEat A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
Kodie Bird True to its essence, the characters remain on the same line and manage to entertain the viewer, each highlighting their own distinctive qualities or touches.
PimpinAinttEasy This is a Malayalm film with a truly unique plot - three men (a Hindu, a Muslim and a Christian) who want to have a good time at a brothel find themselves caught between rival groups of Muslims and Nayars who are fighting over ownership of one of the women in the brothel.I still remember watching this movie as a small boy at the Shenoys theatre in Ernakulam. Mamooty was actually at the show and I remember him driving away in a Toyotta at the end of the film wearing a "jubba" similar to the one his character "Sakaria" wore in the movie.Back to the film, the ending is hampered a bit by an inconsistent actions by some of the characters. There are some truly interesting characters in the movie like the old Namboodiri who wants to have nothing to do with the goings on in the house. He seems to be in what Naipaul called "Hindu retreat".Mamooty is terrific as the sexually frustrated "Sakaria". This must be one of his best roles. Ashokan and Nedumudi are the perfect foil for the boisterous Sakaria. Unnimary was voluptuous back in the day but Padmarajan gives her the role of a slightly melancholic prostitute. It really is a unique film made during the golden age of Malayalam cinema.(9/10)
antophil If you want to feel the boldness of an unusual story telling or the chill of an unknown fear inching it's way up the spine, which you may not have experienced before..then go for this movie. A strong story line with limited characters, filmed mostly throughout a single location, building a subtle atmospheric terror without a doubt will haunt you for days. Character development at its best. Mammootty, Nedumudi Venu and Ashokan scoring in with outstanding performances. Giving the pleasure of reading a thrilling short story, the plot never losing it's tempo, keeping it all the way up to the chilling climax. Realistically and masterfully done by Director Padmarajan with a fine camera work by Shaji.
