Nessieldwi Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.
Lollivan It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
Hayleigh Joseph This is ultimately a movie about the very bad things that can happen when we don't address our unease, when we just try to brush it off, whether that's to fit in or to preserve our self-image.
Cassandra Story: It's very simple but honestly that is fine.
El Mendigo I just finished watching this movie and I'm pretty surprised with all the low ratings. Sure it was a little confusing, but this was probably due to the fact that I could only watch this movie in french with french subtitles knowing very little french and, despite this, the only part of the movie I didn't really understand was the ending.I don't really have any complaints about the acting or anything. Some people were complaining that it was unrealistic the way he stole womens jewellery right off their neck without them noticing and sure it's "fake" and all, but it's a movie.I'm not really that much of a Lupin connoisseur so I can't really comment on how loyal it was to the books and such. I enjoyed the movie although it was a little bizarre and at times perhaps a little cheesy, but I still think this is worth watching.
Mezcal1111 To me it looks like the director wasn't really sure what kind of movie he wanted to shoot. Sometimes it has some comic bits in it, like Lupins 'comic strip' movements or some well rehearsed one-on-one fights. But then he must have had some doubts as to what line to follow, because he started to use bits of splatter movie style, Indiana Jones adventure-archeology, historic drama, family tragedy and so on...then put everything in a big blender and press the mortal button. Mortal because what comes out of it is a shapeless blob of a movie with a story that has no head and no tail, and on top of that it's awfully looong too. positive: some good actingBeware: save your money and time
sarastro7 An average rating of 5 out of 10 for this movie is patently absurd. It may be too smart and elaborate for a mass audience, but based on the few votes (less than 900 at the time of this writing) it cannot have received very wide distribution. I believe posterity will be far kinder to this movie than the IMDb users have been thus far.I rented Arsène Lupin on DVD from Blockbuster, and I was engaged and engrossed from beginning to end. Actually, what made me want to see it was the IMDb genre description - a mix of Action, Adventure, Crime, Romance, Mystery and Comedy?! I loved mixed genres, so I thought this should be good! And I loved it. An interesting premise, cool martial arts action, unexpected developments, an immortal countess (!!) and lots of intrigues, set at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. Very classy, and very well produced in every way. I was thoroughly entertained. I have not read the books, but this movie makes me want to.My only complaints are that there was no explanation for Arsène's father being a bad guy. He had started out as Arsène's hero, on whose life Arsène modeled his own, and then his father turns out to be a traitor, with no explanation? Harumph! Also, I thought the countess was a mite too evil at the end. I mean, deliberately trying to set off World War I?! Why?! No explanation. However, the reason I rate this movie a 9 rather than just an 8, is that it finally - finally! - gives us a great role for Kristin Scott Thomas. She is a delight to behold in a role that is worthy of her. This is perhaps the only movie since The Tenth Man where she's had a prolonged, really great role. For that I thank whoever got her involved in this project.9 out of 10.
Michael Dillon The gentleman thief is a classic idea. And one I'm very fond of.. so i was excited to see Maurice Leblanc's character brought to film.. Unfortunately it wasn't a great film. It's undoubtedly a tough story to tackle, and the film shows this - its too long and occasionally seems to find itself meandering in confusion trying to get back to the plot. Although i found the film overall quiet dull, the subject is excellent. There are many interesting characters, and its filled to the brim with intrigue! (and gentlemanly thievery). However occasionally i began to believe i was watching "Wild Wild West"... A french dubbed version that is. This film is easy watching intrigue fueled thriller with japes aplenty.. Nothing special.
