annevejb I first purchased the version made for England, locally as a second hand DVD. It was a speculative purchase, it seemed like it might be okay.I liked it, but mostly when I re-watched it I started from when Arthur was preparing to go into the Minimoys' land and ended at the start of the journey to Necropolis.I noticed that many UK reviews either were not impressed or considered that the French soundtrack was way superior. Those views did not make much sense to me.I then purchased the Blu-ray of Arthur And The Great Adventure and found it to be fairly empty. A wasted purchase. But I remembered the comment about the French language. It was a long shot, but I checked out the Arthur series in Amazon France and purchased the triple DVD box set from there. My plan was to listen in French but watch with the English subtitles on, just the subtitles are only in French so I put my disk set to one side.December, the horror season. For Christmas I decided to check through my disks for Barbie stuff that I had not watched much yet and I also added the Arthur set to the collection, together with seasons 3 and 4 of Trachenberg's Gossip Girl. Apart from bits of GG, Christmas turned into something other than horror. I do like Barbie movies.None of the Arthur disks from France were anything like the stuff that I purchased in England. Feature 1, Arthur Et Les Minimoys is longer and includes a different dialogue to the version for England. It gels as a story. I tend to watch it all the way through, not just the middle bit.My Blu-ray of Arthur And The Great Adventure turned out to be a weak edited version of the two remaining stories, Arthur Et La Vengeance De Maltazard (2009) and Arthur Et La Guerre Des Deux Mondes (2010). If I do not re-watch episode 1 so much is because I tend to head to these as well. I also look to the final 15 minutes of Arthur Et La Vengeance De Maltazard as that has a lead in to a magnificent end credits song.One big difference between the French and the English is the romance between the 10 year old Arthur and the thousand year old Selenia. In English one accepts that there is a romance because it says so, the French version shows it. It is a real romance type adventure story, in the first feature especially.From other reviews, I get the impression that the version made for France is the cinema release version that was shown in England.

fichindarktower Enjoyed the movie, good acting in both versions(french and English) but the 2nd one is still better. Tried to watch the English cut version, and it was HORRIBLE! They deleted 10 minutes of the movie, dubbed it differently, and dubbed over some parts of the movie where it was not dubbed. Oh yeah and they added some horrible voice acting which was unnecessary and just BAD. The list goes on... ON the other hand, the uncut version(English and french language) is really better. Watched the french version cause the animated parts where done(recorded and filmed(guys in suits on a green screen)) by french people and as a result, when watched in English it may seem out of sync and a bit fast cause french films have really fast dialouge. Oh yeah and there gestures and stuff seem weird as well. When watched in french, you don't really notice it(if you ever watched a french movie, if not watch Taxi and Taxi 2, also by Luc Beson) Fun movie, good humor,good acting, for kids and older people. Someone will surely find something they like in this movie. I avoided for 3 years cause it looked really lame and finally watched it and was pretty nicely surprised. The 2nd movie is also on par, but the 3rd one went too much into the kiddy zone and anyone above 10 probably won't like it. Good and nicely made movie, I recommend it to all ages Enjoy :)

trevormcarthur I forgot that this was directed by Luc Besson, but it made sense when his name appeared at the end of the movie. So many of his other films hover between great and disaster, it is inevitable some don't negotiate the dance successfully. The fantasy plot begin to seem paint by numbers rather than original, the live-action acting is occasionally caricature rather than character, the voice overs rushed and seem badly dubbed.On the plus side, the animated characters showed some interesting creativity and there were some good moments between the characters both good and bad. My little kids had a good time, but overall this rates a ... meh! Not one to be remembered.

Nicolas M If your kids have adhd, this movie is ideal for them. It basically has two paces, fast and hyperdrive! No time for character development, precious little time to connect to what's going on, hardly any time for the actors to deliver their lines, just go go go!!! Besson should have made some choices here. That way he could have slowed down the pace and could he have given the story time to sink in. For instance, the African tribe dudes don't add any value to the film, so that could have gone.Biggest plus, David Bowie rules as the bad guy! A bad guy that looks a lot like those trolls from the Fifth Element.
