A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

I would call this the worst movie I've ever seen, but it isn't even a movie. This is 80 minutes of mindless self-indulgence disguised as something the filmmakers probably want audiences to view as artistic. There is nothing artistic or even worthwhile here. The creation isn't shocking, vile, or depraved as the creators would like to think either. It is childish, poorly crafted, and dull beyond belief. I've read numerous times that the special effects are what sells this so called film, but there is no way any part of this film can salvage this absolute timid wreck of an attempt at shock cinema. If you want shock cinema, watch Un Chien Andalou, A Serbian Film, Battle Royale, Bedeviled, Cold Fish, Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father, Eraserhead, Gummo, I Saw the Devil, Irréversible, Oldboy, Strange Circus, Suicide Club, or Zero Day. This is pure garbage that any idiot could replicate.

I've watched all of the "August Underground" films a few times and feel like I can review this one now. I won't bother with reviewing the other two, because they're basically the same thing, so why try.First off, I'd like to point out that I've seen the worst of the worst Z grade garbage out there and this one is not as bad as those. While the dialogue and acting weren't top notch, it certainly wasn't totally horrible acting. The people in this film definitely make it quite convincing as a snuff film, so it certainly accomplishes what it set out to accomplish. I've even turned it on for a few friends and they were so shocked, they thought I had actually put on a real snuff film. I had to show them an interview with Fred Vogel just to convince them it wasn't real. The special effects were top notch, and the torture was almost too real. So if you want to see some absolutely horrendous stuff on screen, by all means go ahead. I give this film a 9 for the effects, 5 for acting....Now, on to what I hated about this. The camera work. I can see trying to make it convincing with bad lighting, and a bit of shaky camera work, but anyone, anywhere can hold a camera on somebody. There was absolutely no reason for them to swing the camera around so wildly the entire film. I have a hard time watching this thing just because the camera work makes me angry as hell. If you can put together such amazing torture scenes and effects, why would you actively try to use a camera in such a way? There is no reason for it and it's very annoying. I give this film a big fat zero for that. If I could talk to Fred Vogel myself, I'd give him a thumbs up for effort on effects, but I'd ask why in the hell he had to make the camera work that bad. It makes this film seem way too strained. All in all, it's a tough one to stomach, and anyone with any sense of moral comfort will probably get sick watching it. If you can see past the horrendous camera work, it's worth a watch if you like the pseudo snuff genre. All others should just avoid this thing like the plague. I give this a total of 4 stars.

So, you think you can handle sick films? You have watched Hostel and you think you have seen it all!? No Chance. This film is undoubtedly pretty gory, very sick and almost always twisted but then that's want they wanted... They succeeded. I have seen some of the most violent films the world has to offer, Inside, Haute tension, Martyrs, even A Serbian film (which was pretty bad!) but they had a story, a plot and a point - but this has none. It tells no real story and honestly i think it was made only to shock... I just cannot see the point. The camera work is dire, the lighting is poor and the script, well, not sure there was one - it's not even that convincing. Watch it, so you can say you have. Then never watch or speak of it again. 2/10 and it only got that due to the shocking level the makers were prepared to go to... Films like this have no place. Anywhere. Ever.

Never before have I watched something so disgusting, shocking, perverted and downright wrong. Do not even bother with this film unless you can genuinely handle hardcore gore and seriously messed up themes. This one has it all- Incest, vomiting, castration, necrophilia and most disturbing of all paedophilia. The creators of this film certainly succeeded in creating something vile, something that causes the viewer to cringe (at least I hope everyone responds that way, because if not I am a little concerned)The filming itself looks very realistic and you could be forgiven for thinking you were witnessing an actual snuff film. I found the hand held style a little annoying at times, but necessary to create that realistic effect which adds that extra punch to what is a very twisted 'storyline'.I use the term storyline loosely because this film does not really have one. It's clear the characters are beyond messed up and I felt the acting was quite good. I believed the characters and I felt a deep hatred towards them, especially that of the brother. He genuinely looks insane. The gore in this film was also fantastic and they are really good at what they do. There were several moments when I had to look away. The castration scene was horrid and I do not even possess a penis! The vomiting really got to me as well, especially because I have heard that they were genuinely vomiting in that scene. I could not watch the bathtub scene. If you don't know what I mean, it basically involves one of the main characters, engaging in necrophilia with a very, VERY young girl. I enjoy messed up, but not that messed up. I feel that a personal line was crossed, and I kind of hate these guys for making such a scene. This film is exhausting, and at the end I felt kind of depressed. For that I applaud the film makers, as they did an excellent job of f*cking with my mind.
