ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Voxitype Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.
Alistair Olson After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.
durmangirl I Ain't didn't got no doubt about this but after the events of the first bambi in the scene after Bambi said goodbye to his trusty and best animal buddies and even his father the great Prince and follows his new mother Mena, ronno saw bambi again and thought that they were pals which is ronno the mean young idiot fawn deer from disney, Bambi argues and fights him back while Mena runs up to him to see if he is alright As bambi and ronno Whom they mistakenly push and knock Mena that she got herself with her foot caught in a hunting trap. Which is causing that, when suddenly a pack of man 's hunting dogs hounds-animals Approached them. While ronno who calls out of his mother and begins to run away in both fear and terror And Bambi who stopped and is scared and stood frozen in fear. And mistakenly believing that she will be in danger and trouble too. Which is why should not had been happened in the first place from disney. Which is a mistake.
tom-43722 This movie is one of the very few Disney sequels that manages to be on par with the original. Clearly the people working on it did everything they could to capture the spirit of the original Bambi and for the most part, they succeeded. The greatest part of this movie was Patrick Stewart as the Great Prince of the Forest. In the first movie, the Great Prince was merely a role model and we never knew much about him but this movie fleshes him out and creates a very likable but not flawless character. And they couldn't have chosen a better actor to replace the late Fred Shields. I felt like this was more the Great Prince's movie than Bambi's, partially because his character was a mystery for 64 years so the people working on this film had to be careful with how they handled him. Personally, I think they handled him extremely well. In the original movie we only have Bambi's mother's word that he's brave and wise but in this movie we actually see his bravery when he defends Bambi from a pack of dogs and hear some of his wisdom such as "feel the forest". However, they also give him a playful side and show that he's struggling to be a good parent and sometimes makes mistakes, such as trying to send Bambi to live with someone else.Although Patrick Stewart stole the show, Alexander Gould did a great job as Bambi. The most powerful scene in the movie was when the Great Prince found Bambi at the bottom of the cliff after he defeated the last of the dogs. Anyone who's seen the original Bambi knew that he would survive and the writers knew that they knew, but there was one very simple word that made that scene stand out.Dad.Until that scene, Bambi never referred to the Great Prince as dad and it's clear that the writers were saving that simple word specifically for that moment. And I must give kudos to Gould for the delivery of that line. Yes, it's only one syllable and anyone can say it easily, but Gould not only nailed the grogginess Bambi was feeling as he regained consciousness but also the love he felt for his father, despite the fight they had earlier in the movie. After that scene, Bambi continued to refer to the Great Prince as dad and the Great Prince realized that he couldn't send him away to live with anyone else, showing that they had both realized how much they loved each other. This also fits in nicely with the first film as the Great Prince went out of his way to find Bambi in the forest fire and lead him to safety. Now we know that he didn't just do it because Bambi was his heir but because he genuinely loved him.Another thing I should point out is that the art is fantastic and looks just like the original film. Overall, this is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, of all the Disney sequels.
ravsten428 Disney has been throwing sequel after sequel in our face. While most of them are duds, this one, which I consider more of a middle point of the original, is a great story.Bambi 2 has some great elements to it. The animation is actually very good especially considering it went straight to video. The story is simple enough to follow. We pick up where Bambi's mother is killed and his father rears him. The Prince of the Forest believes that a dad can't raise a fawn alone, so he tries to find a new doe to raise Bambi. All the lovable characters from the first film are here. Flower, Thumper, and of course Bambi's love interest, Faline. We also get introduced to a few new characters such as the groundhog and the porcupine. These two are merely comic relief and don't provide much to the plot. The bit with the porcupine though is rather funny.Bambi also has to deal with growing pains and his future rival Ronno. Ronno comes off as a major jerk in the movie and it suits his personality quite well.I guess my only problem with the film is that Bambi seems a little out of place. He's told to run by his father when he's confronted by the hounds yet he's frozen with fear. If Bambi was told to run by his mother then wouldn't he already know this instinct? Another thing that bothers me, and this was prevalent in the first film, is that the elements seem out of place. In the first film Bambi skips from his mother's death to spring. By this time Bambi is a full grown deer. I believe a year would have had to go by before he reached adulthood. In this film winter jumps into spring and he is still a young doe just starting to reach a starting point into adulthood. Those are the only things that bug me about the films, other than that the original and the mid-quell are great classics in my library.
leilab08 But still a disappointment. Let's look back to the original film for a moment. Overall, not much dialogue. The humor was scarce but touching, the fawns a picture of innocence. Now take a look at Bambi 2. A lot of unnecessary yapping in between cheesy pop songs. Some of cute moments, some jokes reused from the original, and the movie even has its fair share of toilet humor. The fawns are now rambunctious and argumentative, at points even fighting with each other. Now I'm not saying that Bambi 2 has to be a carbon copy of the original, but shouldn't it at least possess a similar tone? There were many things I did like about this movie- the animation was spectacular, and the movie was, overall, pretty sweet. The original movie had a style that's hard to emulate, I'll admit. And hey, toddlers will probably pay attention to this one much longer than the first. However, in history, there are some films that just shouldn't be touched. Cinderella? Aladdin? Okay. But Bambi 2, as entertaining as it was, left me with a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. However, for what it's worth (a cheap, straight to DVD release), I guess I can't complain.
