Bambi was born Jean-Pierre Pruvot in a tiny Algerian village in 1935. Even as a child, she refused to meet the expectations of her extended family, choosing instead to find a way to become the woman she always knew herself to be. A Cabaret Carrousel de Paris performance in Algiers in the 1950s proved to be all the encouragement she needed to emigrate to the French capital, assume the stage name of ‘Bambi’ and lead the life she longed for on the music-hall stages.

Reviews

Cathardincu Surprisingly incoherent and boring
Ketrivie It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
Helllins It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
Hattie I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.
Ersbel Oraph This is a very nice and personal story, all whitewashed by an ambitious director. The uglier scenes with the police are kept for the bonus track of the DVD or just edited out. Bambi has a very touching story. And she knows how to express it so well. But the ugliness of the staunch catholic France of today is even worse than what is kept into the film after the director filtered it out. Back in the 1950s and 1960s probably was far worse. But why stir controversy when you can parade with your mention at a Berlin festival. And packed with it you have the French regular chauvinism: the DVD comes packed with English and French (?!) subtitles. Berlin festival was not relevant enough to put some German subtitles. This way a good story becomes a lost gem, hard to reach to most people.Contact me with Questions, Comments or Suggestions ryitfork @ bitmail.ch
