Softwing Most undeservingly overhyped movie of all time??
Rijndri Load of rubbish!!
Calum Hutton It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
Francene Odetta It's simply great fun, a winsome film and an occasionally over-the-top luxury fantasy that never flags.
diogomanuel What I mean by simple is that the story is easily understood, doesn't take too many turns that we might miss and be lost in the middle of the story. It is pretty straightforward and even heartwarming sometimes. The acting is magnificent and Rachel Wood steals the limelight from the very first moment she appears on-screen. The whole movie depicts love and life in a way that we don't usually see being portrayed by Hollywood but one that is much more sincere and natural than the usual passion route most movies take. It is quite easy to enjoy this movie and having watched this by chance on TV, I'm glad I came across it.
zif ofoz How many times has this 'igganunt' story been hashed out? Smart(?) handsome young man falls in love with a mentally disturbed yet beautiful young girl. Everybody cheers for the stupid chick and everybody loves the young handsome man because he has taken the 'igganunt' mentally disturbed beautiful young girl into his love starved heart. Think of that piece of crap '50 First Dates' . Why did I watch this movie? The girl Daisy (Evan Wood) belongs in a special institution for the mentally insane and he Jay (Scott Speedman) is about ten minutes from death because he has borrowed from the underworld to cover his gambling debts. These two meet and hit the road! HOW ORIGINAL! Then retard Daisy just charms Jay's ever-so rich family so much that they just squeal with delight that Jay has bagged a fish. All ends happily with all the expected bumps in between. Oh, and by the way, it's called 'Barefoot' because Daisy has no concept of what shoes are.Oh, what a stupid movie!!!!
cuthbertjoel I stumbled upon this film just clicking around IMDb. I'd never heard of it at all and had no idea what to expect. The film centres around Jay (Scott Speedman) and Daisy (Evan Rachel Wood) who strike up an unlikely relationship while on a visit to Jay's family and a road trip home. Very similar story concept to We're The Millers and Identity Thief. Characters that are thrown together get to know each other and realise there's more to each of them than meets the eye.The film has a few elements to it, some work, some don't. Speedman and Wood both play their own parts fairly well and at the start of the film, I thought the sort of childminder relationship worked quite well. Once the film started to suggest a more romantic vibe between these two, I just didn't buy it. The two never have that on screen chemistry to believe that you are genuinely watching two people falling for each other. There are a few funny moments in the film, and it does negotiate the rom-com cliché minefield fairly well. I think there may be some negative responses to the handling of mental illness in this film. It is quite trivialised and glossed over for much of the film. All in all, I thought it was average. My life is no worse for having watched it, but equally, I need to write this review hours after watching it as it won't be in my memory bank in a day or two's time.
xhidden99 It's not good or bad. It's nothing. The writing is stale the characters are flat and paint by numbers the story is something you've seen a million times. Obscenely wealthy family's bad egg. Obsesive prying parents and a girlfriend who just dropped in from Mars. What's her problem with toilets anyway. Her toilet fetish is a big part of the movie. What is her general reality? Is she disturbed, retarded, autistic, what? I think she's supposed to be the mermaid from Splash 2. Anyway it turns into a weird buddy movie road movie rom com with some E.T. thrown in. The lighter side of kidnapping and sexually assaulting mental patients who fall in love with you because you're good looking and a rich dangerous bad boy. Who could find fault with that.
