Huievest Instead, you get a movie that's enjoyable enough, but leaves you feeling like it could have been much, much more.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Micah Lloyd Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
adonis98-743-186503 If this film was only more than 1 hour it would be even more better. That was the only thing that bagged me we don't see Batgirl too much and Batman isn't really that much of the leading character here but the animation is good and the action is good if they could turn Batman & Robin like that then the franchise wouldn't be terminated like that. The film came out on 1998 one year after Batman 4 and it has Kevin Conroy as Batman once more although is never as good as Mask Of The Phantasm and The Return Of The Joker is still a good Batman film with great characters and a pretty cool story. I give it a 10 because i had fun with it.
gigan-92 A I even remember the tag line from years ago, and re-visiting the film feels quite good. Obviously, there's much less focus on the Caped Crusader than in "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm", but that's expected. Regardless, Kevin Conroy is a priceless Batman, and Loren Lester is awesome as Robin. Michael Ansara is forever memorable as Mr. Freeze; basically everyone from the show reprising their roles here. It amazes me how some are quick to dismiss an animated film, yet the millions of dollars in Hollywood couldn't save "Batman and Robin" from being the piece of sh*t that it was.The storyline is a continuation of the episode "A Heart of Ice" from the first season, and an extremely good one. As with all Batman films the basis is a mystery tone. The move is tense, well-paced and has superb character direction. The animation is at the peak of the Batman: The Animated Series, and there are several shots that will quite honestly have you on the edge of your seat. Both the action and story development is fueled by Michael McCuistion's score, which is really well done. Each aspect is masterful and a definite must have by all means.
TheLittleSongbird Whether SubZero is the best Batman movie that is up for debate, but it is a long, long way from being the worst. The problem is really that it was released so close to Batman and Robin, but as far as I am concerned SubZero completely blows Batman and Robin out of the water. Apart from the colourful costumes and sets, Batman and Robin for me failed on characterisation, scripting and acting-George Clooney was completely wrong for Batman and Arnold Schwarznegger's Freeze didn't come close to the complex character he is in the comic books. SubZero, while not as ambitious as Mask of the Phantasm is a very good film. True, the secondary characters could've done with more development, but it is compensated by top notch animation, a good music score, surprisingly mature scripting and a compelling enough story, that is quite action packed, and the ending was very poignant to say the least. The voice acting and characterisations were exemplary. Batman is more a side character to Robin, but Kevin Conroy ensures he is his dark and brooding self like Batman should be. Robin here is quite heroic here and Barbara aka Batgirl is really beautiful. What made the film though was Freeze himself. While still chilling and ambitious, he is also sympathetic and loves his wife to death. Michael Ansara conveyed that perfectly. In conclusion, pretty darn good for a Batman film. 9/10 Bethany Cox
RainDogJr This time Batman is not the protagonist. That doesn't mean anything since I don't found in Batman the protagonist of the fantastic The Dark Knight. I love many enemies of the superheroes and for sure they can be really great characters. This one-hour movie is about Mr. Freeze, basically we see him as a desperate man trying to save his wife. We have pretty much a great premise for animated Batman stuff that must be somehow special and not only because of the longer runtime. It's great because we have an enemy who is not "working" and is having calm days. Is basically for an accident that Mr. Freeze is in Gotham again, now really desperate. So it's great because we know that Mr. Freeze will do anything in order to save his wife and because we know that at one point Batman and pals will be the only ones who can stop Mr. Freeze. Here the "romance" between Dick Grayson and Barbara Gordon will place them as the protagonist of the first part of the movie and also the relevant fact that Mr. Freeze's wife needs a transplant and Mr. Freeze is also considering living persons so Barbara is the target. Coincidence or whatever but with the Batgirl as prisoner Mr. Freeze will not have exactly an easy time and eventually he will end practically as a victim! One the other hand we have our two heroes having basically the normal routine and everything is just too straight. By the end we have that Barbara never had real problems even that she was kidnapped with a desperate Mr. Freeze and that the real problem was the place where Mr. freeze was living. This movie could have been much better and more special since it was a great premise to have the enemy in a more human situation that still will put some lives in danger. The final scene is great on that way not showing Mr. Freeze but Victor Fries finally watching what he was fighting for as a true event. I do liked this movie but just that. I could purchase its DVD for a very low price and it was a worthy purchase.
