Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
RipDelight This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.
Melanie Bouvet The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.
Freeman This film is so real. It treats its characters with so much care and sensitivity.
juneebuggy Inspired by a true story from the 80's, This follows newsman (John Krasinski) and animal activist (Drew Barrymore) who team up to help a family of grey whales trapped under closing ice in the Arctic, a story which becomes huge world wide news.I really enjoyed this, way more than I expected to actually. It wasn't the cheesy, family fare I anticipated and while it was still predictable and I'm sure took some liberties with the real story it did it with such charm and heart that I didn't mind. I surprised by how invested and even emotional I got towards the outcome of this story. It was also really nice to watch a movie about people, governments and businesses coming together for a cause ( big oil, military, politicians, the Inuit, Russians and Americans) a nice change of pace there. They don't make enough movies like this anymore.Excellent (if somewhat surprising) cast attached here too: Dermot Mulroney, Kathy Baker, Ted Danson and several other familiar faces. 2/21/16
rachellfrank12 This was a really sweet and heart warming film, especially if you're and animal lover. There's a good story (based on a true story) and great performances. Yes, it was a little generic, all be it cheesy, at times; but I still left the film feeling touched. IMO Drew Barrymore gave a stand out beautiful performance, while john Krasinski, Kristen Bell, and the rest of the cast were also great. It is a tear jerker at a few sweet moments, I must admit, but its a good cry. I grapple with the fact that the whales were CGI. One hand, I'm a semi animal activist and prefer not seeing animals working, and they did look incredibly real. On the other hand, it was a little bit of a let down when I found this out. Can't explain why, just a gut reaction. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and would recommend this film to anyone looking for a nice genuine entertaining time. Also, it is suitable for families which is always nice.
shaan4444 Big Miracle looks deceiving due to its advertising. Looking like a sappy, clichéd mess of a cash in. Even at first impression, it's deceiving. Characters like the oft-seen charismatic ex-boyfriend, the spunky animal rights activist, the street-smart young kid, the pretty fish out of water journalist, the local elderly wise man, the mean old oil tycoon turned good guy, the unlikely geniuses who provide comic relief, and even the self-absorbed douche bag news anchor had me fearing for its quality This is a slow movie. Prepare to watch people standing around a hole in the ice. If you think gray whales are a waste of time, you won't be moved. On the other hand, if you can pull for a family of marine mammals in danger of freezing to death, you will probably find satisfaction in this movie's numerous charms
samsong44 Just watched the movie Big Miracle. Have heard of it when it was first released but was not in the mood for that kind of movie, until today, when I was in the hurry to pick up a movie so the person behind me won't be impatient. Thank goodness, I did rent it! It was absolutely one of the best movies for me. After I finished the movie, I was quite astonished to find out that it did not do well in box office. What a shame! The movie makes you smile and cry, warms your heart and gives you hope when thinking of the adversities in the world, economic downturn, Hurricane Sandy, war on terrorism, European financial crisis, and so forth. The whole country gets together, behind one goal, in that short period of time to save the three gray whales. People who have stood in opposite sides put aside the differences, even hatred, whether they are politicians, military, media, local Inuit community, distant small business entrepreneurs, environmentalists or big company. With cold war standoff between US and former Soviet Union, it is beyond anyone's wild belief that US would allow or former Soviet Union would agree to send its icebreakers over to US territory to assist the rescue. Though, sadly, the little one did not survive, two others swim to their freedom, in the eyes of the exulting crowd, feeling the joy of we humans could help other living beings in this planet, when they are literally trapped in life threat danger. We have done enough to hurt them or even endanger them, some event like this great rescue should bring back our consciousness. I give lots of credit to all those who contributed to the rescue, whether they did it for their political agenda, business promotion, personal motive or community survival. The undeniable fact is that when the little one disappeared, they, and we as audience all feel the deep loss and pain; and when the two others finally burst into the air from the deep water, they, and we again as audience all shout out in relief, joy and tears. We are different and we can never change that. We could work together for certain noble deeds, and that we have proved it. Why couldn't we do that more often, not just to rescue three gray whales, but do that to save more animals, our environment, and save those whose lives are endangered. Where there is hope, there is will; where there is will, there is a way.
