Chief Detective Horst Schimanski spent the night drunk in a hotel after witnessing a young man blow himself up with a hand grenade in an office building. While he was lying there half asleep, the furniture manufacturer Heinrich Hencken was shot down with a gun at close range in front of the hotel.
