A Disappointing Continuation

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional
Quiet Muffin
This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

Actress is magnificent and exudes a hypnotic screen presence in this affecting drama.

Why is it seemingly often necessary to make the characters in slasher films so collectively objectionable? Laurie (Danielle Lilley) is pouting because drippy new husband Hugh (Brandon Kyle Peters) has invited their idiotic friends to their new house when 'she hasn't finished unpacking yet.' This follows a promising pre-credit scene where an unknown photographer is exploring the grounds of the neighbouring abandoned boarding school and finds a sinister face-mask in the basement and instantly gets garrotted. The hope is that the same thing happens to this current gaggle of pearly-toothed airheads. This isn't anything to do with the acting, it seems a deliberate policy to make these characters precocious cyphers it is impossible to care about.Happily, it isn't long before these fey wannabe hooligans find the boarding school and casually trash it, not for any particular reason. After all, why would they need to justify their actions? The communal view is that they'll be able to take some impressive photographs there.Less happily, it isn't long before the house-warming party gives even more of these imbeciles an excuse to shock us by talking about drugs and finally letting lose those hormones. It is annoying that so much time is spent with these people, with Laurie and Hugh's tedious arguing, with the Harmony (Kelly Kilgore – what a fitting surname the actress has) the hippie girl's LSD induced chantings in the abandoned house, when within that house is The Blood Widow herself. We never see her true face, never really know her motives, but she is a wonderful creation, and instantly more interesting than the rest of the characters put together. As the killings begin and prove to be impressive, and the Blood Widow of the title even more so, it is amusing to hear Hugh promise that he's 'going to get my cross-bow and get my f*****g girl back', with all the venom of a cream horn.We don't learn a huge amount about the Widow (Gabrielle Ann Henry), other than she's a wronged pupil at the boarding house, which is a shame as she looks great, in the mask and leather costume. She even has the good grace to relieve Laurie of her jeans for the final scenes. She either lives a normal life (which we know nothing of) outside the mask, or merely exists in this ramshackle building, hiding in shadows to wait for any wary passer-by. {SPOILER} Despite a plucky effort, last survivor Laurie is despatched during the pacy finale in a protracted death scene, after the film genuinely leads us to believe Laurie has destroyed her. Blood Widow Lives, a sequel, is in development, and I hope next time she has – Laurie's last minute resolve aside - more inspiring company.

This is surprisingly a good slasher. Not only is the main antagonist a woman with psychological problems, she is also the main killer. The protagonists are typical as far as Hollywood is concerned – they are most likely college buddies and they are living their lives after college. One couple has bought a house and a party has ensued; they have relationship problems throughout. The movie has enough psychological drama, tension and relationship spark to keep the characters going; but this is not the main facet of the movie – instead, it is about the abandoned house next door. As many movies go, the characters trespass where they dare and they've stirred a hornet's nest. Now a sick girl that lives in the ruins of this house, is out to torment some victims. What was tension and good times, quickly turns into characters that are stripped of modern conveniences, herded around like sheep, tormented psychologically, or otherwise picked off one by one in gruesome fashion. If you want to cringe and have our skin crawl, this movie also provides that – characters are regularly stabbed, beaten or dismembered at key points when victory is within their grasp. The movie has lots of twists and moves in different directions. Unbelievable facets of the movie include the dismemberments, beheadings, beatings and tension levels. The movie plays on the highs of them, and it is purely for entertainment; shock value also applies here which the movie has lots of.So in short, the movie is good. The DVD also has a few good extras which make it worth renting. Your choice if you want to buy it; it is certainly a contender for better horror film.Originally posted to Orion Age (http://www.orionphysics.com/? p=7003).

I'm at the point now (like most movie-freaks) where I can tell within 10-15 minutes into viewing a feature, rather it'll be any good or not. And I knew that I was going to be sitting through this one through the duration. Even though some of the acting from the supporting cast is really bad, it wasn't enough to stray me away from the story.'Blood Widow' starts off with a quick off-screen kill that sets the tone nicely. Then, we meet new homeowners, Laurie and Hugh. While happy to be moving, her mood suddenly is turned upside down when Laurie finds out that Hugh invited friends over to their new home, and intends on throwing a party. And of course, Hugh's friends have to be total jackasses, and decide to go to the boarded up boarding school next door, just for kicks. At this point in the movie, I knew that I was going to like it. I was surprised myself, by how much I was into it. Upon breaking into the boarding school, aside from making fools of themselves, Hugh's mischievous friends find themselves in the wrath of the Blood Widow, who has a very troubled origin. I personally like the way the Blood Widow looks. Although it's a bit stylized, and perhaps it ruins the realness of everything, her outfit is pretty sweet, and the mask is nothing less than creepy. It's a very iconic look. It's feminine with a touch of serious danger. And once she gets a hold of Hugh, Laurie, and their buddies, she goes a major killing spree full of blood, brutality, and creativity.Someone gets gutted in a violent and downright gnarly fashion, and there's even a double beheading! Again, some of these kills get away with murder (no pun intended) because, although they're not very realistic all the time, they're enjoyable and entertaining as hell. The Blood Widow is not shy on gore either, there's plenty to go around. And there's an overall gritty feel and setting in the movie, that keeps everything seem so much more intense. Things get crazy towards the end, when the Blood Widow captures Laurie and ties her up. We see some serious sadomasochism, and some surprising unexpected deaths. The movie ends very dreary and dark. And bloody. 'Blood Widow' hits shelves this Tuesday, June 3rd. Don't miss it, especially if you're prone to like your horror a bit dark and gruesome.

What was there to like about this film, sadly.. not a thing! The acting was well below par, even for a film of this nature. The death scenes were recycled garbage, poorly executed, and lack luster. I wanted more than anything to see who ever created the score killed in the film. In fact I wish the antagonist in the films used the director as a weapon to brutally beat the score composer to death.Seeing that would have been more original than the over done script. Avoid this film, it's nothing you are looking for in a horror film. I literally wanted to punch someone in the face whilst I watched this. Horror films are truly becoming horrible.
