Synopsis James White (White) is one of dozens of associate pastors at a mega church in Southern California under the tutelage of television evangelist Johnny Kingman (Wise). He always longed to have his own church and jumps at the opportunity to become pastor of the impoverished Divine Faith Apostolic Church in Atlanta. His wife and two children aren’t very enthusiastic about his assignment. Neither is the congregation itself, but they will have to learn to trust each other and pull together to save the church from a corrupt banker anxious to foreclose. It will take a musical miracle, supplied by BeBe Winans himself, to save them all in this heartfelt, family-friendly comedy.

Titreenp SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
Marketic It's no definitive masterpiece but it's damn close.
Dynamixor The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
Brennan Camacho Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.
bkoganbing No way on God's green earth would wholesome, white, and white bread David A.R. White ever be given an assignment as pastor in a black church. No way either would a black church be associated with the ministry of one of those tele-evangelist types like Ray Wise. But that's what the film Brother White would have you believe. Not in this world.White plays an assistant pastor, one of many in Wise's organization and he's earnest but not terribly effective. He gets an assignment to move from California to Atlanta and pastor a black church in a poor neighborhood in Atlanta that's in Chapter 11 with a lot of rich and powerful folks looking to close it. I don't think I have to go much further.Such television veterans as Reginald Vel Johnson and Jackee are in the cast here and there's some good gospel singing for those who like such music. How does White do it? Think of those old Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland movies and you'll have the answer. Well it worked for Mickey and Judy.
Joel Brown On meaning, worldview, characters' behavior and interpretation. On description: describing the story in objective terms, 'Brother White' an associate pastor who works for a mega-church takes a job at a small church in an inner-city neighborhood as a pastor, which he finds to be humbling. In which, James White lets this experience change him and he also helps to bring change to certain people in the community, as James discovers that the whisper of God can be heard through the people that he helped. On meaning: describing what the story/director is trying to say. To me the director is trying to say, there's another way of living that's far better than just living in the fast lane and trying to make a living. An abundant life that makes what you eat and drive seem more less important. On worldview, describing what principles are in use by the characters or in the plot. There were several scenes that showed biblical principles in this movie that I am not going to try to describe in detail, here is a list of the ones found: Liberty, Simplicity, Contentment, Hope, Christian Fellowship, Faith, Temperance, Edification, Humility, Perseverance, Praise, Prayer, Contemplation and reflection, Forbearance, Purity of speech/Doctrine, Hospitality, Fidelity, Sympathy, Evangelism, Loyalty, Generosity, and Love.On discuss the characters' behavior based upon biblical principles. The behavior that was scene in the characters in both films, 'Brother White' ' were: liberty, simplicity, contentment, hope, Christian fellowship, faith, temperance, edification, humility, perseverance, praise, prayer, forbearance, purity of speech/doctrine, hospitality, fidelity, sympathy, evangelism, loyalty and love. The best scene that the biblical principle that love was displayed in the film, 'Brother White' was when James went inside a bar to meet a prodigal hustler there where he played pool together for a favor and then towards the end James invited the hustler to have dinner with him and his family. On interpretation: describing what the movie means to you personally. Personally what the movie 'Brother White' meant came through a line from an actor in the beginning of the movie that pretty much summed up what the movie was about. Supporting Actor: "God doesn't work through architecture, He works through people." The scripture that I can connect this line to is Ephesians 3:20-21. "God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us." Through that quote and scripture, you can see how there's truth is connected to this. You can also see that this was the main point that the director probably wanted to get across to the audience, for an example of what the movie is about to me is: James White took a pastor position in a small church that was hurting and on the edge of closing and God used him in small acts of kindness of the lives of the community, as his impact there helped to save this small church from closing their doors. In short; it can be better to be a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in a big pond, because you are put in a position where you can better see the needs of the people and address them individually as they come across your path to help bring change in their life as it showed me how you can do great things out of your comfort-zone.
