Too much about the plot just didn't add up, the writing was bad, some of the scenes were cringey and awkward,

Clever and entertaining enough to recommend even to members of the 1%

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.

By Hook or By Crook is a tremendously innovative film from a pair of immensely smart and talented filmmakers, Harry Dodge and Silas Howard. They manage to tell an original story in a distinctive cinematic style, and it's beautifully shot by Ann T. Rosetti, and wonderfully written -- truly poetic. The lead characters are true heroes and serve as a rare kind of role model/inspiration for butch dykes and trannies everywhere. This film has so much energy, so much poignant passion and scruffy San Francisco heart to it. I can't recommend it highly enough! The best butch buddy movie of all time!

Thanks for all your great comments and most of all for watching our movie, it's always nice to see that people take the time to watch indie movies. what's even more astounding is that you've taken the time to make commentary. This is the stuff that keeps us going. OK that's all i really have to say, but IMDb is making me fill this up with 10 lines of text, so i'll carry on for a bit longer. All I really wanted to say was thanks, so i'll keep saying it over and over again. if your looking for another interesting movie about butches check out the shinjuku boys. i think that's about all for now. watch the movie and tell us what you think. i didn't vote for my own movie cuz i think it's a bit tacky, kinda like this posting.

I find this piece amazing, one of the few portrayals of butch identity in film. It's a buddy story really, mixed a lil with road movie and a dash of coming of age story. The writer/director/actor team of Howard and Dodge prove their versatility and strength by bringing characters to life that are so marginalized out in the world. Also a great performance by Stanya Kahn as Billie: an awesome Fem character that deserves a whole movie of her own. Visually, this is one of the better digital films you will see from 2001. The soundtrack kicks. "A man's journey is but the search for the first great images that gained access to his heart."One of a kind, highly recommended.

My sister took me to see this movie at a local gay film fest this summer. She is gay and commented on the fact that there really weren't any films that dealt with gay females on a platonic level. This movie was heartwarming, cute, and funny. I love the part about "can you make us look like carpenters?" It shows the fabulous wit that went into the movies making. These women (who made the movie) set a powerful scene in motion. The people in it are so real, and the feelings are heartfelt. See this movie
