Harockerce What a beautiful movie!
Lovesusti The Worst Film Ever
Merolliv I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Tayloriona Although I seem to have had higher expectations than I thought, the movie is super entertaining.
SnoopyStyle New couple Clifford Sturges (Eugene Levy) and Gloria Wellaby (Andrea Martin) are driving their troublesome car when it breaks down near the small town of Farnhamville. They are told about the legend of 3 cannibal women luring men to their deaths. They stay at the house in the urban legend hosted by the Reverend and his three female followers. With Levy and Martin, I assumed that this is a spoof or at least a horror comedy. I'm not sure if there is any comedic intent and I don't know what is suppose to be funny. There is actually a very effective section as the old woman recounts the cannibal girls legend. I love these beautiful women luring the two nerds especially. It's effective horror and works great as a story. There are interesting ways to go with that dynamic. Levy and Martin don't really fit and they aren't going with their strengths anyways. After a certain point, the movie left me scratching my head.
jokerswild1 You'd think it'd be basically impossible to make a boring film when you've got Eugene Levy with a (pretty frickin' amazing) afro, Andrea Martin, the director of Ghostbusters, and a premise involving a trio of sexy cannibals, but what do you know, somehow they found a way.Even though it's listed as a horror comedy, it's mostly just horror, with only a vague comedic sensibility. And even in the moments where the intentional comedy is clearer, it's surprisingly not very funny considering the director and screenwriter's comedic chops as evidenced by other films like Meatballs and Stripes. The tagline "These girls do exactly what you think they do!" is actually funnier than anything in the movie. But man, that afro...
jimminysnickety I like Ivan Reitman movies like the first Meatballs(Bill Murray),Ghostbusters(Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson). This one is not very well known but it is still worth a viewing with some friends on a snow day.Yes, there is a Warning Bell for the those with weak stomachs for certain scenes. Eugene Levy has a main role which he does a great job same with Andrea Martin. They play a young couple. Levy plays as a Big City-Hippy type. Martin plays the ditsy girlfriend role. The supporting cast are lesser known actors and actresses. There are some twists in the latter part of the movie. The bias that the Metre De has about smokers' blood being unacceptable for the circulation. The speculation the Sheriff and Doctor are in cahoots with the Metre De. the three girls who have a taste for fresh meat and their deformed homebody Bunker watch out for them.
alanmora I am BEGGING someone to release this hard to find little horror/cult gem on DVD. I would love to hear what Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin think now about having done this fun little schlocker. This film is very hard to find but it is definitely worth the search. It's a strange little film but if you can look past the bad acting, the holes in the storyline, and the inexplicable lack of gore that you would expect from any movie with the word Cannibal in the title it's actually a fun little flick. The 'gimmick' in this one is the "warning bell" which warns the viewer that a 'disturbing' scene is approaching (very William Castle like!). Still, there is just something intriguing about this cute little horror flick...check it out for yourself and you'll see what I mean!
