Calum Hutton It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
Portia Hilton Blistering performances.
Anoushka Slater While it doesn't offer any answers, it both thrills and makes you think.
Nicole I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
Horst in Translation ([email protected]) "Captain Cosmotic" is a German 90-minute movie from 1998, so this one will have its 20th anniversary next year. Director and writer is Thilo Gosejohann and his more known brother Simon is on board too playing one of the characters. The co-writer is Jan Hendrik Meyer and he has worked with T.G. on many occasions and he plays the title character here. You could certainly call these 1.5 hours a fantasy film, so I am a bit surprised this genre is missing here on IMDb as it is maybe the defining genre in fact. Cast members are not known at all except the one I mentioned already, but this should not be a surprise looking at who made this and that he worked together with Jörg Buttgereit too. Budgetet was minimal for sure, so here we have an amateur movie and as such it really could have been worse. There is guilty pleasure potential here and on some occasions you get an entertaining moment. For T.G. it is probably his second-most known work and an effort from relatively early in his career. This is the story of a bunch of aliens coming to the Earth to get in possession of its core and destroy humanity as well as the planet while running into many earthling who are a strong opposition to the invaders despite facing their very own problems like the woman who gets humiliated by everybody early on. One of the film's strengths is that it never takes itself seriously, but if we are honest here it's also pretty impossible to do so. It may be decent for its budget, but overall it simply isn't good enough for a recommendation, even if it shines through its occasional randomness and absurdity. Thumbs down. Don't watch.
bellero_phon Okay, I mean the movie actually is crap. But if you consider the budget with which the film was shot, there are even some elements that appear quite inventive/creative in the picture. Thilo Gosejohann shot this film from 1992 - 1998 in Germany with a financing that actually didn't exist and a crew of volunteers who, although most of them lacking theatrical abilities, obviously seemed to enjoy themselves acting their parts and the movie manages to convey the spirit of enthusiasm during the production of the film with nearly no budget. The story is really at a level quite below anybody might even imagine, but it's so surreal and sometimes consciously overdrawn that a not too small group over here in Europe consider the movie Cult - not only is it most often intentionally crappy and funny but there are also many references to other flicks and homages in it. Tough it might prove difficult to get a copy in America - over here on the old continent it can easily be ordered at Amazon (two editions, Powerb**ch - rated 18+ - and Greenhorn - 12+ - edition). Thilo Gosejohann put a considerable extend of violence into the Powerb**ch edition, which people with an affinity for truly black and sick humor (including myself) might consider funny - ever seen people fencing with spinal columns taken from previously killed corpses? Though it appears comical most of the time - not explicitly perverse or violent. If you ever manage to come across a copy of that role-model of independent film-making, give it a chance. Concerning features and (personal opinion herein) fun I would prefer the Powerb**ch edition, although people sensitive to violence might want to take the Greenhorn edition.
mst-lage Captain Cosmotic, made by some really crazy german guys, is a very cheap and awful produced video-movie about youngsters and mad bikers, helped by a real sane captain. Lots of badly made blood and massacre with awful tricks but, i think, it might be highly interesting for guys, who really love cheap an dirty underground cult. Only a few copies available... ask the producers for further information
