The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

Slow and Boring and completely predictable with an end that does not tie in If you are like me who has seen all the big name popular thrillers and are now looking for indie hidden gems , you can skip this one coz it is not one of them. I am a fan of movies that are well done even if they are low budget and without star cast so i decided to give this a chance since the plot line seems really interesting but it fails to do it justice. Firstly i could barely continue watching it got so dull and boring but since i had seen some positive reviews i thought i should stick it out in the hopes of it really sinking in but that moment never came and the twist that some people are raving about is a twist for the sake of twist. A well written twist ties in with the rest of the plot and involves characters that are explored in the movie which would make something like that effective but in this case does absolutely nothing. If you take the twist ending out the rest of the movie is as dull and predictable as they come. From the summary you would expect that it is about the struggle of the kid as he looks up to this killer but in reality there is no struggle. But that's the price you pay for taking a risk with a an indie thriller, they are often less known for a particular reason, in this case because it is not good.

Anchor Bay has produced some top horrors over the past few years but Chained is very underrated, The plot isn't anything to scream over but its executed well. Most reviews compare it to Bereavement but this deserves recognition in its own right. We see Bob a serial killer taxi driver who prays on women. One day whilst working he picks up a women and her young son Tim. Obviously the woman gets killed but he keeps Tim.Over a period of 10 years we see Tim whose now named Rabbit grown from a small child to adolescent whilst Bob still brings home women to kill. Rabbit is chained to a wall (hence the title) but Bob educates him with books so he becomes clever.Flashbacks throughout the movie show Bobs shocking past, being abused by his dad and brother whilst graphically being forced to have sex with his mother The final half hour is where things start to pick up. Bob now wants to take Rabbit out 'hunting' Rabbit picks out a pretty girl called Angie but he starts to fall for this girl and is traumatised when he is forced to kill her. Unbeknown to them she didn't die and is ready to attack and with the help of Rabbit the over power Bob...But its the ending that is surprising and also unexpected the twist will shock you..With gore and suspense in the right places and a decent plot its un missable for horror and non horror fans alike

Bob (Vincent D'Onofrio) is a cab driver who picks women up, takes them back to his house in the middle of nowhere and kills them. One day he picks up a young boy Rabbit (Eamon Farren) and his mother (Julia Ormond) and kidnaps them. He kills the mother, but keeps Rabbit alive to basically be his house slave. As time progresses, Bob tries to mould Rabbit into being just like him, but has Bob created a new protégé for himself? I really enjoy films that make me think and Chained is an example of a film that, on the surface, has a rather thin and basic plot. However, the writers here do their best to maximise the potential they're given by not only keeping everything tight and suspenseful, but also in creating a villain who is multi-layered and utterly fascinating. Although Bob's actions are unclear at the start through flashbacks and conversations with Rabbit it becomes more and more clear what Bob is all about; there are psychological issues relating to his abusive childhood - it's possible that he may have felt that his mother let him down by not protecting him OR because most of the time he saw his father being abusive to his mother that he may have thought that this was the norm and that this is what women are there for - these were my interpretations but I understand that others may see this differently.Other than excellent character development and an insightful narrative the other thing that really elevates this film is the strong performances from D'Onforio and Farren; As Bob, D'Onforio brings to life a very interesting character, a man who'll you'll want to learn more about and find out what he'll do next. Farren holds his own well in a role where he pretty much gets to the point where he's desensitised to violence, but again like D'Onforio I found myself fascinated by his character and again was interested in seeing how events would unfold between the two characters. The film also gets points for its impressive cinematography and wonderful direction. As well as all of the above, the script kept me on the edge of my seat by throwing in a few twists and turns at the end. Chained is a film that is dark and at times quite disturbing and therefore it definitely isn't a film for everyone. However I thought that it was a terrific film and is definitely one of the better films that the genre has to offer.

As an horror movie, I did not find it that scary or that gory. To me it is a heavily dark humorous view of father-son relationship. Many of Bob's line are similar to what fathers usually say to their sons, including "you have disappointed me" or "it's important to have notions or people will walk over you". Even the surrealistic process to try and teach Rabbit his own "profession", the graduation gift and so on. It is not a comedy, but it made me laugh.Besides this Bob's character cannot have been a serial killer for more than ten years. Actual SKs 'want' to be caught. Actual SK don't kill on demand. One of the best line is: "Did your father teach you things? Or was he just f****d up?"
