Neive Bellamy Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
Tyreece Hulme One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Stephanie There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Jerrie It's a good bad... and worth a popcorn matinée. While it's easy to lament what could have been...
eryui All right, this is not a masterpiece, it is a simple, light comedy/thriller at times messy and at time funny and gripping that anyway somehow entertains.Shia LaBeouf acted very well the naive part and he was great. Some moments are moving other bitter and sweet a few just nonsense. The plot is very simple, essentially it is a post adolescent love story in a thrilling contest.Despite the flaws it has some really memorable scenes with a nice soundtrack. I am writing this review because I found it, although faulty also touching and sweet as comedy, with some exciting moments but I was about to skip it for the low rating and I am glad I didn't.Some reviewers are too severe, it is not a movie to throw away to me and it should have at least a full encouraging seven for its almost novice director and certainly even more for the great LaBeouf acting.7/10
Maryjnberry This was one movie I thoroughly enjoyed! The cast is terrific, Shia Lebeuf has a real role and plays it well, the grittiest role he has had to date, I think he is capable to do more of these type of movies, forget the Disney, Shia! The other actor I love in this is Melissa Leo, she is excellent in all of the roles I have seen her in, authentic, warm, believable, namely the Fighter, Prisoners, Midred Pierce to name just a few. I also love Evan Rachel Ward, she was devastating in Mildred Pierce, and wonderful in Woody Allens - Whatever Works! So much talent in this movie makes it an intelligent indie movie, sadly one that most of the general public will miss because they are too busy watching the block buster movies that are advertised to death and are terrible in the end, badly written, worse acting, perhaps lots of things blowing up, in other words movies made for an unresisting audience. If more of us were to complain about the quality of movie made in Hollywood, they would have to listen and make a better caliber movies.
ZULFIQAR RAJA It can be quite disconcerting when fans pick holes in a movie, which either they never understood or it was different to the run of the mill. Whatever the reason but many critics have not appreciated the beauty of 'Charlie Countryman'. This is a film that definitely has fallen under the radar, it is violent yet poetic, dramatic and humorous at the same time. In fact this film has so many spell binding elements, I can only describe it as a beautiful film. The film follows a young man who has just lost his mother, he is suddenly inspired to travel to Bucharest, where he enters a crazy world of a beautiful woman who is trapped in a criminal underworld. The events thereon seem to be part of fate and a greater plan that neither Charlie or the viewer truly understand. The message of this movie is to follow your heart and believe in your instinct, live life to the full and die for what you love. It's great and I loved it from the moment it began to the moment it ended. @zulfmanauthor
theLovelyRing It's a comedy with a clear theme which is about love and romance, though the content is not very concrete, but if you can view it in a way which is kind of like surrealism, you'll find it totally worthwhile to watch. Actually, we are all like Charlie, when something bad happens, we try to escape from it, sometimes we buy drinks to numb our brains, sometimes we run away from the life that we are familiar with, we travel abroad, far, far away to experience a different world and life-style. I think people do that mostly because when we travel abroad we can find that compare to the rest of the world, how small individuals,as we are, in the whole wild world are. And when we meet new people from different culture with different stories, we find that none of our problem and sorrow is alone in the world, we can somehow relate to other people. Anyway, it's a good film made in a artistic style, abstract in content but brilliantly delivered its message about the theme, lost and love. Plus, with LaBeouf and Mikkelsen in the film, why not?
