Surprisingly incoherent and boring

A different way of telling a story

It's entirely possible that sending the audience out feeling lousy was intentional

The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Ed Saxon (Jeff Daniels) college professor is having trouble sleeping. His house has some constant water issues and his wife Eve hasn't returned home. Ed, and just about everyone in the film takes pills. Ed hallucinates. The problem with the film is that once George Simeon (Julian McMahon) enters the picture, we have the entire film figured out. Thank you Edgar Allen Poe for the wonderful story, "The Tell-Tale Heart."The film grew tiresome as I was waiting for another twist, or some cinematic feature to grab me. But alas it does not. Ed mopes about in a state of being half asleep. There are better Tell-Tale Heart type movies. Of course if you never heard of the short story, you might like seeing it done for the first time.PARENTAL GUIDE: Sex, Nudity (TV star Emily Bergl) some brief adult language. In real life Emily Bergl was a national champion poetry reader...that and showing your boobs can get you a part in a movie. In this production she plays as student who loves poetry, but doesn't read any in the film. A missed opportunity.

After seeing a freaky avatar of a gigantic slimy lookin baby over-flowing a bathtub I realized, almost immediately, that I needed to see this flick. And not too long after realizing I needed to see this film I got off my bumbum and did what I had to do to see it. And I'm very glad I did.The story revolves around Jeff Daniels character realizing that his wife hasn't come home from work. He begins to worry and calls the police. From this moment, you begin to realize Jeff's character is severely withdrawn from sleep. He's struggling to remember what time of day it is, and he believes he is sleeping but for only moments at a time. It's a mish-mash effect that works pretty damn well. The sleep-depraved Daniels is trying to juggle the disappearance of his wife, the interaction with his daily life and the inability to count sheep, and it's beginning to take a toll.Chasing Sleep is an underrated gem of a flick. It's a slow-burn flick, but it's also very interesting and has amazing direction, music and camera-work. My only problem was that the script, and the delivery of the lines, felt too rushed. Conversations would fly by with not enough hesitation. Even with this minor fault, the acting still held up and the writing was still strong enough to keep you feeling this was a realistic situation. Nevertheless, Chasing Sleep was a very nice surprise and that baby lived up to all it's weird-ass glory. Check it out if you get the chance.

Not an ordinary thriller. Low budget, a few but good actors, a good story.A university professor, finds his wife nowhere one day. This is the first moment to loose his connection with real life. Insomnia drives him crazy, by seeing, hearing things that never happened, or totally unreal.Even the loss of his wive could be a hallucination. The movie is a bit like The Forgotten, but having no UFO-s or alike supernatural events. And this is even more fearful, that humans can experience. With a little insomnia.despite the disappointing ending it worth at least 8 of 10.

This movie was horrible because I had no clue what was going on at any given moment. I bought this movie strictly because Julian McMahon starred in it and he was only in the movie for like five minutes which was very disappointing. I did look forward to his scenes, though which gave me some excitement. I did not understand the plot of the movie nor the ending. Jeff Daniels played a pretty decent part considering I paid more attention to Julian McMahon's little parts. I should have rented this movie first before I bought it. If you are looking for a lot of Julian McMahon scenes, don't buy this movie. He was only in two scenes in the entire movie and you hear his voice on the telephone once. Oh, and by the way, they misspelled Julian McMahon's name on the DVD cover. They spelled it MacMahon but at the end of the movie, they spelled it McMahon.
