Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction

All that we are seeing on the screen is happening with real people, real action sequences in the background, forcing the eye to watch as if we were there.

A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.

"Chipollino" is a 39-minute animated short film from 1061, so this one has its 55th anniversary this year. The director is Boris Dyozhkin, the writer is Mstislav Pashchenko and he is the one who adapted the work / the fairy tale by Italian writer Gianni Rodari who was still alive when this film was made and was pretty successful in the Soviet Union with more projects than just this one. The story is basically about an onion guy who revolts against the unjust establishment and the two criminal and ruthless leaders. I don't think this film is really trying to send a political message though, it's mostly pointless fun and this shows that all the characters are fruits and vegetable in here. But they made so many films with speaking animals, why not make one with talking vegetable too? The characters are cute and kinda interesting I must say. Don't be mislead by the ways they look. There is nothing ridiculous or negative about this film, even if it dragged a bit occasionally and 30 minutes would have been enough. Nonetheless, I recommend the watch. Pretty refreshing little tale, also for young audiences.
