In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

The film makes a home in your brain and the only cure is to see it again.

The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Delight
Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

I watched the first Cold Prey movie back to back with this 2nd part Cold Prey. Although YOU don't have to. This second movie still makes very good sense without having to see the first movie, although I would recommend it as they are both good watches! I really love how the writer/director takes their the time for us to LIKE the characters. I CARED about them, and didn't want to see them hurt, unlike some of the horror movies where the characters are almost annoying and w kinda LIKE to see them killed off.It just makes for a more roller coaster of an emotional ride. Again, the subtitles were unusually easy to follow while watching the movie. The setting, this time around, is a hospital. Again reminiscent of the Halloween circa 1980's movies. And yet again, the acting is superb, the special effects (blood etc) were very well done without going overboard into shock territory. The pacing even better in this second movie. Very rare do we see the second installment even better then the first, but I agree with most other viewers who liked this one even better! Norway has really come thru for us fans who enjoy this type of horror. Excellently done and highly recommended!

Some park ranger literally almost runs into Jannicke, the sole survivor right after the events of part I. She passes out in the middle of the road so he takes her and the ice pick she's holding to the hospital. He's the boyfriend of one of the nurses there. There's another nurse and one dr. and only 2 patients, a boy and an old woman.Eventually the cops arrive to interview her and are a bit doubtful about her story. Nevertheless they send a team to the ice cave and they drag out the bodies of the victims and of the killer and take them to the hospital. And wouldn't you know, 30 minutes into the movie, the dead killer shows signs of life so he's resurrected by the medical team. Jannicke tries to stop them to no avail. Instead she's put in restrains. But for some reason they never gave her drugs to knock her out. Previously she had nightmares and visions and even visited the bodies of her friends in the morgue. Now with the killer on the lose, off course he turns the light off and starts taking people out. The main cop meanwhile starts to investigate the killer. He saw the birthmark on his face and it looked familiar to him. There are also plenty of cold cases of missing people in the area so he sends his people back to the cave and they find countless bodies. Now he believes Jannicke and makes it to the hospital as the killer is about to run out of people to kill. The cops mount an operation to take the killer out. It doesn't go well. That forces Jannicke to take matters into her own hand. Back she goes to the hotel of part I in the hopes of running into the killer. He doesn't disappoint.Cold Prey 2 is more polished than part 1. It has better characters and an excellent direction. The setting of a hospital is better until it gets dark. But it's not good enough. If you are filming a movie out in the country in Norway why not show some of it. And what a difference it makes when we finally get to go outside during the day in sunlight in the final scenes. A problem for me is that Jannicke doesn't make that good a lead. I kept hoping the killer would gut her. In good world-wide media establishment fashion, the men in this movie are completely useless and the women are the tough and smart heroines. Cold Prey 2 is a competent slasher that still could have been improved some more.

Logically unfolding sequel to the supremely atmospheric and haunting Norwegian horror hit "Cold Prey", released two years prior. Sole survivor Jannicke gets picked up by the side of a snowy road and taken to a nearby hospital that is as good as empty due to being closed very soon. She's in shock and nobody believes her grotesque story about the pick-axe wielding maniac that butchered her friends. They're forced to sing a different tune when the five cadavers are recovered from the ravine and brought back to the hospital morgue. The police also discovers a few dozen of other frozen corpses, including that of the killer. He really must be Jason Voorhees' distant Scandinavian relative, as he miraculously resurrects from his body bag. The medics successfully attempt to bring him back, naturally much against the will of a hysterical Jannicke, and she's obviously right to protest as he promptly continues his relentless killing spree. Meanwhile, the local police commissioner digs up the 30-year-old missing person file and discovers a handful of interesting personality details about our deranged killer. "Cold Prey II" is a more than worthwhile successor of the original, this time with a sinister abandoned hospital setting instead of an abandoned skiing resort setting. Also like in the original, the characters are identifiable and amiable individuals and you certainly don't wish for them to die in such barbaric and excruciatingly painful ways. Like the cute blond nurse who's being smashed to death with a fire extinguisher, for example. Ouch! The sequel is actually even slightly more suspenseful than the first film, because there's a more intense aura of mystery hanging around the killer's persona. The first half hour is particularly scary, prior to his resurrection, because you can't really guess which direction the writers have chosen for this film. There are nicely eerie decors and set pieces, great use of ominous music and always the exact right dose of lighting. Let it be clear that these Norwegians definitely know how to generate the right mood for an atmospheric and nightmarishly intense horror film. "Cold Prey II" also benefices from terrific acting performances, including the one from the little kid. The last half hour follows a very exciting cat-and-mouse game between the killer, hiding somewhere in the hospital, the two female survivors and a bunch of policemen. These sequences are authentically scary. When is the last time a slasher actually scared you? The finale is brilliant and Jannicke unfolds herself as one of the most prolific and heroic female horror protagonists of the last decade. There's another entry on the way, apparently a prequel set in the 1980's. I, for one, cannot wait!

Within the first 10 minutes of Fritt Vilt 2, you'll understand who'll survive, who'll die, and in what order. Within that same time, you'll also be really sick and tired of all the tedious "fake scares" accompanied by loud sound effects. If you're unlucky enough to have been dragged along to watch this at the cinema, you'll most likely also understand that the average age of the other people in the audience is about 13. There are some OK moments in Fritt Vilt 2, a few laughs, and almost a tiny bit of nudity, but alas its all halfhearted. At the end of the movie, you'll be left with nothing but disappointment, but hey, wasn't that also quite predictable of a slasher movie sequel from Norway?
