Reviews

ChicDragon It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.
StyleSk8r At first rather annoying in its heavy emphasis on reenactments, this movie ultimately proves fascinating, simply because the complicated, highly dramatic tale it tells still almost defies belief.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
annie-page-24-154771 Beautiful and engaging, this film was my first experience of a non-Hollywood feature film. Once I got used to the "rawness" that this brings I was totally captivated and drawn in. Some of the stories had slightly implausible endings but they were the ones I would have wanted to write myself! The romance, drama, tragedy and humour woven in to the plot kept me going right until the end when it seemed to be almost a fairytale. Would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a breath of fresh air at the cinema. It captures the essence of London and its many commons with intense detail and characters that can seem fairly straightforward on the surface but have much to tell us about themselves and our attitudes. Hope to see more by the same team before long!
gilliansandham Although it is fun to see a film made in our locality, the real pleasure of the film was the skillful interweaving of stories of ordinary, but exceptional, people who were using the Common. All of these stories stirred the emotions, were thought provoking, and were told in a concise and uplifting manner. The film was made on Tooting Common but the characters could be found around the world in any public green space - so the title Common People has a double meaning, and strikes a universal chord. We owe it to such talented ( and local ) film makers to offer whatever support we can to spread the word and give the film the audience it deserves.
emilyfoy A reminder that you don't need big budgets, special effects and Oscars to have a truly fabulous film.Funny, silly, and touching in equal measure this is one of those films where you just don't know why you like it, but you do. The characters are plausible and likable, the story lines veer from the ridiculous to the heart wrenchingly plausible and the simplicity allows the focus to remain on the hub of the plot, the inter relationship of normal people, warts and all. It isn't always pretty, it isn't always kind but it is unavoidably real. Its life.A film that you leave feeling content and happy, proud to be not just a Tootonian, not just a Londoner, but a human being.A triumph.
Chris Marshall What's surprising about this movie is how rapidly you begin to care about all the characters in this neatly woven tapestry of visitors to a London Common, viewed by us the film watchers, and by an escaped parrot!Without giving too much of the multi-faceted plot away, the film concerns a series of regulars initially going about their daily lives, and then observes them get involved with each other with some surprising consequences...Unrequited love, long term relationships, a few cheeky themes, a bunch of life-saving cub scouts and the life of the homeless rather all miraculously build up to a sweet and sad resolution, while looking most pretty and causing a few tears and laughs along the way.Life affirming and recommended.
