ActuallyGlimmer The best films of this genre always show a path and provide a takeaway for being a better person.
Leoni Haney Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.
chimera3 The adrenaline rush never stops. The razor-sharp humor and nonstop action are back...and then some. As usual, Chev has to race against time or risk dying, but it isn't because of the poison we saw last time; it's because the villains took his heart and replaced it with an artificial one that has a less-than-reliable battery pack. The trademark "Mission Impossible" type formula is back with a vengeance: fight some villains, consult the doctor, spend time with girlfriend...in no particular order.Once again, there is the usual motley crew of characters who are alongside Chev: gangsters, exotic dancers, adult film stars, the works. The action scenes are definitely ones for the books. Take what you saw in the first "Crank" and then amp it up by, say, twenty. The subtitle is absolutely perfect because that's the pace for which the movie goes: high voltage. Let's face it: the man has nine lives and can't be put down so easily...but don't tell the villains that.Like the one before it, this is another feel-good movie that will boost your spirits if you had a bad day and you feel like hitting something.
niklhoer So Crank 2 basically ties directly on the first move, with no time in between. And by the way the first movie was great. And this movie is too. But the reason I gave it only 8 out of ten stars is simple: it is the same thing again, but with a much worse story.I really liked the first part because of the amount of action and adrenalin, and this really continues in the second part. Which is great and exactly what you would expect out of a second part. But the story does not kick in as much. It does not keep you hooked all the time, the situation is not as desperate as the one in the first movie and I really had moments where I was bored, which should not happen if you set the expectation that high with the first part. But still I personally would recommend you watching it, because it is still an entertaining movie after all.
Mischief810 There are films that should be taken seriously, and there are those that should not. This is in the latter category. If you don't expect much more that fast-paced action, impossible outcomes, lots of skin, crazy and hilarious scenes and gratuitous violence, then you won't be disappointed in High Voltage.Mr. Statham turns in his usual and brilliant performance. Ms. Smart does the same. This is a guy's night out flick. Get some beer, get some pizza, sit down and prepare to laugh. The cast and crew obviously had a lot of fun putting this thing together. I sure had fun watching it and was laughing so hard at times that I had to wipe tears from my eyes.
badfeelinganger It's not hard to see why, either; Crank 2 took the first film's premise - about a hero who has to stay alive by keeping his heart rate pounding - and threw it into surreal, absurd new territory. Ending in a crescendo of violence and fire, you might be forgiven for thinking, as a burning Statham extends his middle finger to the audience, that the stir-crazy hero's adventures have come to an end. Yet during the end credits, we discover that Chev Chelios is scorched, bandage-clad, but still alive.Crank 2 actually did reasonable business, having earned more than double its $15m budget back in theatres alone. At the time of writing, however, Neveldine/Taylor have yet to officially confirm their plans for one, even though actress Amy Smart has suggested that a follow-up as being discussed. If it happens, Crank 3 - once again starring Statham as a now bandage-clad Chelios - could be one of the most bizarre sequels ever made.
