Matrixston Wow! Such a good movie.
Smartorhypo Highly Overrated But Still Good
Micah Lloyd Excellent characters with emotional depth. My wife, daughter and granddaughter all enjoyed it...and me, too! Very good movie! You won't be disappointed.
Bob This is one of the best movies I’ve seen in a very long time. You have to go and see this on the big screen.
Jon Corelis Morgan Sullivan (Jeremy Northam,) tiring of his dull suburban life, gets a job as an industrial spy for a huge software house, but quickly finds himself in a bafflingly complex and perilous web of deception involving a rival corporation, brainwashing, a sinister, inaccessible Mr. Big, and a mysterious femme fatale (Lucy Liu) who appears at crucial moments only to vanish.Cypher is an intelligent sci-fi/espionage/thriller, stylishly filmed and well acted. It's the type of science fiction that depends more on ideas than special effects, though those it employs are convincing. (It seems to be set in a near future -- at any rate, the technology used seems a bit beyond what currently exists.) It's a low-budget film that doesn't look low budget thanks to the the skill of director Vincenzo Natali (best known for Cube,) and features one of the more clever surprise endings you'll find. Lucy Liu, as usual, is a joy to watch, and the other actors are generally good. Idiotically rated R for a few profanities. I saw it on the Miramax 2005 standard DVD, which is of very good quality.
Michael Mendez Been waiting a while to see this psychological sci-fi thriller of a man named (originally) Morgan who find himself undercover doing a risky job for a more bigger corporation.I think the cinematography, done by Derek Rogers, was excellent. Really was experimental in a way. I liked a lot of the fish-eye shots and ones where the frame was off its axis. The acting is probably what brought it down the most. I have seen director Vincenzo Natali's Cube, which obviously didn't have the strongest of talent in it, but they story made it all worth watching.**Same with this film! The story is beyond our comprehension. I'd say that it is not as simple as Cube, but it definitely has more are to branch out to and discover.-- Michael MendezP.s. - Goodnight
badajoz-1 Not a bad movie - as a thriller it keeps you interested in the outcome of who Jeremy Northam actually is and who are the good guys - but after you spot the twist forty minutes from the end, it gets rather more formulaic with CGI and action, and the ending/motivation for the whole plot is a terrible let down. Nerdy Northam gets a job as an industrial spy, who is brainwashed or not quite, so he becomes a double agent. Yes, it is quite tricky following the changes of identity, and actually who wants what from whom, eg companies that are obviously hitec but no real statement of what they can have to hide so secretly. With a mysterious third force - Lucy Liu, who does a nice line in robotic femme fatale - interfering, your sympathies and belief in what is happening change and drift with the plot surges. But then it gradually begins to go downhill as the plot twists become ever more unbelievable - and the ending makes you groan!!! Nice acting, assured direction, but script, as usual with this type of movie, cannot keep all its balls in the air to the finale.
Marauder_Of_Mayhem This was definitely well written, the story and plot were very good. However, I just felt as though there was something missing from it, besides the obvious like the low budget and less then adequate acting, the atmosphere wasn't there. There was so much more room for this to be a thriller and the 'paranoia' could have been made deeper so we were led astray as to who was who. On the upside, the ideas in it were believable and the use of technology wasn't too futuristic to be nonsense. All in all this is watch-able, make up your own minds, but for me I was a little disappointed in the acting because the storyline was there but that's down to the budget or the wrong actors as there has been plenty of lower-budget films with great acting... I wish I could say more but I can't criticize it further without giving spoilers!
