As incomparable in swordplay and wordplay as he is, the gallant soldier, philosopher, and poet Cyrano de Bergerac is as timid as a schoolboy before the fair Roxanne. Derek Jacobi delivers an electrifying award-winning portrayal of Rostand's legendary log-nosed swordsman in this highly acclaimed production from the world's premier theatre troupe, The Royal Shakespeare Company. The bold Cyrano boasts he can defeat a hundred men in a swordfight, but because of his grotesque nose lacks the confidence to court the woman he loves. Yet so entranced with Roxanne is Cyrano that he uses the eloquence of his poetry to woo her for a rival.

Greenes Please don't spend money on this.
Aneesa Wardle The story, direction, characters, and writing/dialogue is akin to taking a tranquilizer shot to the neck, but everything else was so well done.
Mehdi Hoffman There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.
Frances Chung Through painfully honest and emotional moments, the movie becomes irresistibly relatable
john-lyne Since viewing this at its original TV slot the performance has niggled at me to see it again! Chance has it that I got dragged to a school performance by the 6th form final years. I was dreading it, but was fully won over and have followed the play since (even read it). I have seen other versions, but the performance by Jacobi really stirred me (he has that great skill to be truly sincere in what he does and I felt his pain).OK so the set is truly basic at times, but it seemed to take nothing away from the performance.*********I would really like to track down a copy, so if anyone could help I would be really grateful. Obviusly I am willing to pay a reasonable amount for the copy.*********************** Regards. John
