Colibel Terrible acting, screenplay and direction.
Ketrivie It isn't all that great, actually. Really cheesy and very predicable of how certain scenes are gonna turn play out. However, I guess that's the charm of it all, because I would consider this one of my guilty pleasures.
Hadrina The movie's neither hopeful in contrived ways, nor hopeless in different contrived ways. Somehow it manages to be wonderful
Marva-nova Amazing worth wacthing. So good. Biased but well made with many good points.
dworldeater DC Cab is a wildly hilarious and totally unpc comedy classic from the 80's. Adam Baldwin(best known as Animal Mother from Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket) he heads this ensemble cast that also includes Max Gail, Mr. T, Gary Busey, Bill Maher, The Barbarian Brothers and more. This comedy classic has great performances and totally off the wall, colorful characters. They certainly don't make them like this anymore. The pc police would certainly have a fit if something like this was released in today's market. There is plenty of pure insanity and laughter to be had here folks. While DC Cab is raw and unhinged, the characters have a lot of heart. DC Cab comes highly recommended and is one cinematic experience you won't forget.
kapelusznik18 ***SPOILERS*** Looking to get a job as a taxi driver in Washington D.C fresh faced young and very naive Albert Hockenberry, Adam Baldwin, ends up hacking for his late father's Vietnam army buddy Harold Oswelt, Max Gail, who's rag tag taxi company is on the verge of bankruptcy. With ready for the junk heap cars Harold's taxi drivers are in may ways just as bad and in unserviceable conditions as the cars that they drive. It doesn't take long for luck to smile on Harold with one of his drivers finding a violin worth $500,000.00 in his cab who's grateful owner gave him a $10,000.00 reward for returning it.Even though Harold's greedy and unfaithful wife Myrna, Anne De Salvo, who's having an affair with city taxi inspector Emesto Bravo, Joe Perez, ends up will all the cash due to the stale community property laws it's Albert who chips in with his life saving, $6,000.00, to keep Harold's car business from going under. It' later when Albert is kidnapped together with the US , were not told to what country he's assigned to, ambassador's two children that things start really crackling.Great car or taxi chase scenes together with a load of funky music makes this what would have been a forgettable film really shine. The cast included the big bad but moral, he never uses any cuss words, Mr. T as Samson oner of Harold's hard knocking taxi drivers who in the end rescues Albert and the kids by yanking him out of the kidnappers van minus his boots. There's also a very young looking Bill Maher as Baba the cab philosopher and Gary Busey and rock & roll psycho , he must have pick that up playing Buddy Holly, who beside driving the streets of D.C like he's in the Indianapolis 500 refused to work one day in the year January 8; Elvis' birthday.***SPOILERS*** Great final scene with Samson and Albert going at full speed as they fight off the kidnappers crash through the screen of an outdoor movie theater or drive-in just as it was showing a car chase, no where as good as they were involved in, and crashing through it as if it were a 3D flick without anyone in the audience having to use 3D glasses to see it!
salinaserynne This is one of those movies that you shouldn't dig deep in. This movie is ridiculous, stupid, and crazy but it's actually not bad.Basically this is about a young Albert Hockenberry who wants to be in the DC Cab company business which is owned by his deceased father's old friend. The company is on the verge of getting shut down because of their competition with the Emerald Cab company. Albert tries to be part of the business but things doesn't go the way he expects. He deals with a stubborn Tyrone along with other cab drivers who lack motivation and are only in it for the money. The cab drivers get into a lot of difficult situations and hilarious mishaps. The plot makes sense overall, the only confusing part was the kidnapping of Albert and the two rich kids.I thought it was pretty random. I admit, it brought down the movie but the actors saved it by taking a ridiculous twist and make it look so much better on screen. I give it an 8 out of 10 because it cracked me up and kept my attention. I know a lot of people might disagree because this film is not for everyone. If you're not too picky about movie plots and just want a laugh, you might like this as much as I do.
elgatony When I first saw this as a kid I was sort of let down because Mr.T's name and image were all over the ads and what I got was an ensemble piece instead with Adam Baldwin as the lead. My reaction was "huh?".Watching it again 20 years later and knowing not to get too worked up over Mr. T (c'mon, he had his own cereal for crying out loud) I felt completely different about this film. First of all, I had to put myself back in 1983. Many popular comedies of the day were mostly crude, sexist, racist, homophobic and would make a PC advocate shriek and hide under the bed. I bring this up because Joel Schumacher, an openly gay director, should've known better but since he co-wrote it with someone else I don't know which jokes were his so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Porky's, Doctor Detroit and Car Wash are just some examples of this kind of humor. Back to the movie: As a kid I had no idea who they were but today it's kind of cool seeing a young Paul Rodriguez, Patricia Duff (yes, THAT Duff...Ron Perelman's very rich ex), Gary Busey, Marsha Warfield, Irene Cara and Bill Maher when he wasn't gray. Because of the ensemle nature of the movie some shine more than others. I don't even know why Maher is in this movie as he has very little to do. You may laugh at Mr. T's sermonizing (in a very funny but great zoom-out scene involving the Lincoln Memorial no less)but it's refreshing to him delivering the same "make something of yourself" message today. It fits with the theme of the movie. Still, this isn't for little kids because of the naked women and the nature of the humor. A few words on the very underrated Adam Baldwin. He was only 21 in 1983 yet he's the glue that holds this motley crew together. I liked his roles early in his career but I haven't seen him much after "Full Metal Jacket" which is a shame because he holds his own in that too. Working with Kubrick couldn't have been easy. Sure there are problems with this movie, for example a romance between Baldwin and a waitress that doesn't really go anywhere and a thin kidnapping plot but nevertheless, "DC Cab" is an entertaining, feel-good time capsule. A refreshing escape from the mean-spirited, recycled or self contgratulatory comedies Hollywood wants us to pay $10.50 for today. If you think Joel Schumacher's movies are garbage today as I do, check your prejudices at the door. This is way better than Batman & Robin. With "DC Cab", you'll have yourself a new guilty pleasure.
