WillSushyMedia This movie was so-so. It had it's moments, but wasn't the greatest.
Nayan Gough A great movie, one of the best of this year. There was a bit of confusion at one point in the plot, but nothing serious.
Bessie Smyth Great story, amazing characters, superb action, enthralling cinematography. Yes, this is something I am glad I spent money on.
Cody One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
SnoopyStyle Dick Dandelion (Jamie Bell) lives in an American mining town. He's a new miner and works in the general store. He buys a toy gun from introverted Susan (Alison Pill). It turns out to be a real gun. He recruits the town's outcasts to form a gun club calling themselves The Dandies. He has his version of pacifism with particular rules. Krugsby (Bill Pullman) is the sheriff.Directed by Thomas Vinterberg and written by Lars von Trier, this has a surreal unreality. I didn't make the connection to Lars von Trier's Dogville when I first saw this. I almost prefer Dogville's outlandish surrealism. This felt annoyingly fake. The voice-overs leave me cold. There is a wrongness that I couldn't comprehend. Even with new eyes, the fakeness strikes me wrong. Of course, there is a point but it could have been more compelling to give it better truths.
John Shammas Picture ThisA Nameless, Timeless Town. A Boy Who is Fully Aware of the Lack Of Meaning in His Life, and of Those Around Him. A Twist of Fate Ensures Out Pacafist Protagonist, Dick Dandelion Comes Across A Gun.He Will Later Name It, Wendy. Wendy Will Later Become His Best Friend, His One Love.Pacafists With Guns? What An Idea! After failing to inspire with "It's All About Love" alongside Joaquin Phoenix, Danish Director Thomas Vinterberg took a risk on "Dear Wendy", Co-Written along side Mogens Rukov, but as the old saying goes, "He Who Dares, Wins!", and the Dane certainly triumphed with this movie. This movie contains a strong political message, along side a "what if?" premise, and Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, King Kong) delivers a performance that betters Billy Elliot by a long shot, and he is going from strength to strength to ensue his acting career to the very top with his bags of potential. Along side Jamie Bell, Bill Pullman and Danso Gordon add to the small, yet hugely efficient cast to create a spectacular picture. This is not a movie that I can talk too much about, there's either too much, or to little I cant really decide, however I can direct you towards watching it - it will certainly not disappoint.I am a 16 year old from England and I can really say that not only I, but those who have watched this film all say how much they can relate to the plot, characters and theme.Stop reading Watch it
toc_bat Two nights ago we went to see Dear Wendy, it was such a stupid film, so blatantly obvious was its moral, so forced down my throat and eyes and ears. The characters were so exaggerated and unbelievable, their final action is so ridiculous, I do not believe those characters I had spent one and a half hours with capable of it. Yes it was shot well, yes it looked good and was interesting visually, and again the reviewers managed to see so much more, am i so blind? Made by the same guy who did Dogville, and yet Dogville was so much more subtle in the delivery of its message, so much more believable and possible and hence empathicable, or hence to have empathy with. The option was to go to the next town and see The worlds fastest Indian, which I have seen already and think is very beautiful and moving film, and really wanted to see it as I was down and needed a comforting experience but we would have had to bus it and had not enough time. Dear Wendy actually made me so much more depressed, it really got me down.
imwithspaz While the cinematography was very pleasing to the eyes and the young actors did a commendable job, the story itself leaves something to be desired. Though it starts out with an interesting concept, Dear Wendy winds its way into a ridiculous hole. The "twists" are random and unfounded, probably there for the sole reason of providing conflict. Also, the movie tends to be sluggish: watching for an hour feels like two or three. On the positive side, the young actors did a very good job (for the most part). At times dramatic pauses cause more laughter than thought, but that's difficult to avoid with the script. Eye-catching camera angles were used, along with some interesting techniques. To sum up, the director, cinematographer, and actors are probably usually amazing at their jobs; however, if they enjoy their careers they should stay away from writing like this.
