Am I Missing Something?

The movie really just wants to entertain people.

The movie's not perfect, but it sticks the landing of its message. It was engaging - thrilling at times - and I personally thought it was a great time.

There have been times in history when people have sacrificed themselves to save their fellow men from evil. If I ever attain sainthood, it will be because I watched this film so that others will not have to.In a word, this movie is pathetic. If, for some masochistic reason, you still think you should give it a try, then watch the scene that introduces the movie. If you think you want to see more of the same, or even more depraved, nonsense, then feel free to continue. Also, consider checking yourself into a psychiatric hospital, because you need serious help. This is a C movie that strives, but fails, to be a B movie. The acting is so bad, it's laughable, which is why the film got a 2 instead of a 1. The director, who is not worth naming, must have been vaguely inspired by David Lynch's, Blue Velvet. There are Frank-like moments, actors, dialogues, and scenes that those who know the film will recognize. But this is like comparing Dr. Dre to a neurosurgeon.Though many in this movie could be nominated for worst actor, my vote goes to the girl who plays the psychiatrist. How low is your budget if this is what you have to settle for? I'd be willing to bet any amount of money that this is the director's girlfriend. If that's the case, then there is justice in this world.

Local Filmmaker Hits The Target With DEER CROSSINGPhiladelphia has long been known as a city that turns out great local talent in the entertainment industry especially in film. This tradition continues to grow these days thanks in part to an up and coming filmmaker Christian Grillo.Christian Grillo is the mastermind behind this year's breakout Indie film 'Deer Crossing'. He is a man who wore many hats while putting this piece of cinematic enjoyment together for all of us. In addition to writing, directing and editing, Christian is also the musical creator behind the soundtrack. The cinematography is nicely done to perfection by another rising local talent Scott E. Kaufman. The images that the cinematographer places in front of our eyes remain long after the film has taken its final bow. It is a refreshing piece of filming that never becomes boring to the eyes while enticing our curiosity for the next frame.Deer Crossing has everything you would want as a movie lover and then some. It will take you mind and your senses on a roller-coaster ride that only Mr. Grillo himself could construct. Although the film doesn't come with a big Hollywood budget or cast it does however come with a Hollywood delivery and feel. The acting in the movie keeps the pace going at breakneck speed as the lines are read with realism. There are many twists and turns but you are never left on the side of the road scratching your head searching for answers. In the end this film delivers big and leaves you wanting to see more from Christian Grillo and the talent he has surrounded himself with on this film. It proves once again Philadelphia is the breaking ground for entertainment and even though the address isn't Hollywood it can still feel like it.John J. Ruppert10-2-2012

Deer Crossing had to be the best Horror film I have seen in a while. I will watch this movie over and over. The acting was very good also. Great cast. The plot was amazing as ever since I seen the trailer for Deer Crossing, every time i see a deer on the side of the road I get scared. This movie is way better than any of these other so called Horror movies today. I am not a big horror buff but I can say that Deer Crossing has changed my mind about the whole Genre of Horror and Suspense. I love the way this movie starts out with the great line "EAT THE F'ING POTATOES." I will recommend this and other Grillo movies to everyone I know. This is a movie for the ages. And Jonathan Patrick Hughes as Chris played a great Role.

Deer Crossing is a complex story that starts off being about a woman named Maggy (Laura Lynn Cottrel) who has left wit her young son, Cole, to go on a trip somewhere. When she detours she ends up hitting a deer and her and her son end up being picked up by mountain man who holds them captive for eight years. Maggy is kept shacked up in his shed as some sort of play thing and he raises Cole to be his son. This is one of three stories intertwining into the main plot of the film. The disappearance eventually ends up in the hands of a retired detective named Stanswood (Christopher Mann) who is reluctant to take the case after Maggy's husband desires to hire him personally. Before he knows it ends up in Carvin Country where as the story progresses, other disturbing tales unfold as well. Doug Bradley performs very well in Deer Crossing as Sheriff Lock, a cop who takes himself more seriously than the rest of the town does. This film will not be for everyone. It's disturbing but not in a typical blood-filled, over-gored, torture chamber sort of way. This film is disturbing because it's more realistic and emphasizes on the violent impulses and corrupt nature of human beings who you would hope don't actually exist in this world. I'm not big on Independent films but this one really stands out. It certainly doesn't look like a low-budget flick and I'm actually surprised that for the amount of money spent on Deer Crossing that such great visual effects and production was put into this film. I admire the director's effort. Grillo obviously is setting out to change the world of cinema and get us all out of the mainstream of typically tired horror films. I also very much liked the acting in this film. Aside from Bradley and Ernie Hudson I think Hollywood might need to start keeping an eye on Deer Crossing's talent pool. Laura Lynn Cottrel as Maggy was one of the best performances in the film. She was so emotional ad convincing that I still think of Maggy sometimes and what she's been through. Christopher Mann's performance was also top-notch. The most memorable indeed was K.J. Linhein as Lukas Walton. I have no doubts that people will be having nightmares about him for years to come. Tom Detrik really stood out in this film as Dick, the flamboyantly-ruthless villain of the film. He actually wasn't the main villain but I think he should have been. I thought Carmela Hayslett's small part was very good as Olivia. It was nice to see Carmela Hayslett outside of her Roxsy Tyler Carnival of Horrors persona. She plays some sort of cop. She's not convincing as a cop but I don't think she was supposed to be. Her character's job was obviously to not come across as a cop to the person she was interrogating. And Kevin Fennel as older Cole, I've never seen Fennel before but I can't imagine his role being played in any other way than how he did it. If he's new than he has a great career ahead of him!
