MrGKB Wow! This one's bad! I can't say I've sat through crap like this in a while. Strictly for Ken "Dawn of the Dead" Foree, and possibly Zoe "Grindhouse" Bell completists only, "Devil's Den" is the brainchild of stuntman/writer Mitch Gould, who should definitely stick with stunt work. Directing chores fell to Jeff "Stepfather II" Burr, who had his name removed from the project, but forgot to do the same with the laughably pretentious making-of featurette included on the DVD. Tough luck for him. The plot is slim to none: two dolts smuggling Spanish fly (???) stop at a fleabag strip joint that turns out to be populated by bimbo ghouls. A bloated Foree, who's obviously taking a paycheck, plays some sort of government agent who tracks down monsters, and Kelly "The Scorpion King" Hu is a government assassin. Devon "Final Destination" Sawa plays the dolt who survives the initial ghoul attack, and spends the rest of this yawner proving that he badly needs some cosmetic dental work. The gore is unremarkable, the naked boobies are few and far between, and the screenplay would give Syd Field apoplexy; mediocre is far too generous a term for this cheapo "From Dusk Til Dawn" ripoff. If this direct-to-video bomb really cost $1.5 mil, I'd sure like to know where the money went. Probably the catering service. You've been warned.
JoeB131 Sometimes, low budget B movies can be a lot of fun. This is one of those movies. The plot line is simple enough, two buddies go to a strip club where they encounter an assassin babe, a monster hunting samurai and a club full of stripper/ghouls. Who is on who's side gets a little convoluted at times, but in the end, it's a rip roaring amount of fun for this kind of movie.Kelly Hu. Not a great actress, but as an action hero, she's better than most. Certainly knows how to do martial arts. The other actors turn in fine performances... I admit, I didn't see the twist at the end were the "nice" waitress turned out to be the head monster.
jfarrackand Cheesy and funny, this movie lacks in horror but makes up for it with comedy and cheese. I much prefer a low budget flick to a 50 million movie that blows (Tomb Raider 1 and 2).Where to begin, you've got 2 penny ante wanna be drug dealers, an assassin and a monster hunter. Add in a few badly choreographed fight scenes, some one liners and GOLD actor interaction and you've got a low budget flick that I found to be great. This movie was never meant to be terrifying horror, but just plain good fun.See it and enjoy, I did.
movieman_kev This low-budget "From Dusk till Dawn" & 'Vamp" generic copy, starts off well enough with two clueless clowns (Devon Sawa & Steven Schub) going to a strip club that's filled with ghouls (obvious 'buffy the vampire slayer' rejects). But as it goes on, the films goes downhill fast. Sawa's reluctant 'hero' grates on the nerves badly and Kelly Hu further proves that she should be seen and not heard. In fact any scene without Ken Foree in it is pretty much completely unbearable. This is a 'horror-comedy' that sadly can't produce either horror nor comedy. My Grade: D Eye Candy: Dawn Olivieri and an unknown extra get topless
