Pig and Runt born on the same day, in the same hospital, moments apart. Twins, all but by bloodline. Inseparable from birth, they are almost telepathic. They are one, needing no one else, inhabiting a delicate, insular and dangerous world where they make their own rules and have their own language. But days before their 17th birthday the balance of their world begins to shift. Pig's sexual awakening and jealousy begins to threaten their private universe.

mistoppi Mostly this movie made me really uncomfortable. It's mostly the story and the weird relationship between Pig and Runt, and especially Pig as a character made me super uncomfortable with his inappropriate behaviour. He's the exact kind of person I wouldn't want to meet anywhere even briefly, because I'd have to be scared he's going to do something erratic. I've mostly seen Cillian Murphy in really creepy roles like in Red Eye and Batman Begins, and this one is no different. From the very beginning it's like oh no, It's Cillian Murphy and he's going to do something awful again. There's just something about their relationship that makes me want to tell Runt to run away. And at the same time I see comments about them, like some people don't just want Runt to be safe from Pig, which seems so weird to me. There's a lot of beautiful imagery in this movie, a lot of beautiful themes. It's very artsy but I just can't help but feel uncomfortable all through the movie. I can't appreciate all the beauty in it because I just can't stand Pig. Another thing that bothers me is the way they talk. No, not the Irish accent but sometimes the dialogue seems creepily childish. But I can see it's a great movie. It's well written, it's artistic and magical, it has great cast. I just don't like it on personal level.
i-am-a-lesbian Up until the first nightclub scene, this movie was superb. Flawless opening, beautiful relationship between the two main characters and most importantly, the dialog was understandable and interesting. Pig and Runt, childhood friends are trouble-making teenagers who are experiencing issues during adolescence. Pig is insane and destructive and probably has a mental disorder of some sort and Runt is rational, calm, tolerates Pig's violence and stands there smiling as he smashes bottles in a liquor store with an iron pole and proceeds to pulverize the cashier's head with a bottle. Only THEN does she say anything at all. I REALLY liked the opening. I had high hopes for Disco Pigs when the holding- hands sequence was shown when the pair were infants up until the present, when they held hands at night through a hole in the wall(?). But from there it just starts getting worse and spirals into making me feel really embarrassed for the main characters because of how bad it was.Firstly, Cillian Murphy has a TERRIBLE accent. Half the time I couldn't understand it and it didn't sound Irish at all which was strange because he IS Irish. It seems like he overacted a lot in this movie and I was really trying to like it because Cillian Murphy is one of my favorite actors. However I simply couldn't like this because of his awful accent and him acting like a angry retarded (in its most accurate sense) child.Secondly, well, the dialog gets really bad. The lines "You and me! Pig and Runt! Runt and Pig! King and Queen! You and me BABES!" Were used at least 5 times in the movie. Jesus Christ. And there's more. The sparkling dialog includes hilariously bad lines like: Runt:"Where are we going Pig?" Pig:"(bad accent)DIS PLACE." Pig:"Happy birthday Runt!" (1 minute later) Pig: "Happy birthday Runt!"I know Pig and Runt are supposed to be intense, reckless, us-against- the-world romantic madmen types but its hard to appreciate their screwed up relationship when you have no idea what's going on.
flypoodle Much is made of the violence in Disco Pigs, reviewers saying that it's mindless, but I think this is a much subtler film than they are giving it credit for. Pig and Runt are surrounded by constant violence - this is a society that brutalises it's children, is it any wonder that they then become brutal? Runt, especially, is the victim of violence, it's not surprising that she becomes complicit in the violence Pig meets out. And as for Pig, he's a bright boy, but one caught up in his own world, how better a way to express his love for Runt than by doing to others what is done to her, but on a far grander, more nihilistic scale? He is never anything but gentle and tender with her.Girls are drawn to borderline psychopathic men, look at Myra Hindley and Maxine Carr. And Runt doesn't stay passive, ultimately she is sickened by the violence and realises she has to make the break and discover her own personality. This is definitely a film to watch. Cillian Murphy and Elaine Cassidy give stellar performances, and are definitely stars of the future. Look beyond the surface apparently mindless violence, see what's really going on underneath.
lambshankstew I absolutely adored this film it just really got to me, I thought it was beautiful and tragic. My sister saw it and told me I'd love,we have similar tastes, so we watched when I went to stay with her.I know it's sad but I always really root for everything to be alright I really care about the characters ,I want to look after them. It's awful because Pig's not in love with Runt, he's in love with his feelings for her sorry I'm not very good at explaining things but I know what I meen. For some reason this film really spoke to me, I've never had that close a relationship or even a moderatly close relationship with anyone, perhaps that why it meant something
