Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog is a 42-minute tragicomic musical in three acts, each released separately. It tells the story of Dr. Horrible, an aspiring supervillain, Captain Hammer, his superhero nemesis, and Penny, their mutual love interest. The movie was written by writer/director Joss Whedon, his brothers Zack Whedon and Jed Whedon, and Jed's then fiancée, actress Maurissa Tancharoen. The writing team penned the musical during the WGA strike. The idea was to create something small and inexpensive, yet professionally done, in a way that would circumvent the issues that were being protested during the strike.

Ploydsge just watch it!
CrawlerChunky In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.
ChanFamous I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.
Ezmae Chang This is a small, humorous movie in some ways, but it has a huge heart. What a nice experience.
Sergeant_Tibbs This is my first taste of pure Whedon after watching The Avengers and a bit of Firefly which didn't grab me. The first act of Dr. Horrible is just incredible storytelling, especially in setting up the creative world, the conflicts and the inner conflicts. Very inspirational, in particular how it works in all these little payoffs within the buildup. It has a fantastic pace and a real witty affection in the writing. However, it does have a very sloppy production, even for an internet series, I noticed a lot of boom shadow and reflections which were quite distracting, as did the moments where it felt like the actors hearts weren't really in it, or maybe it's just really hard to get the perfect lip sync take. The second act was even funnier, developing the concept in a better twisted way. It doesn't have the structure of the first act, with a slower pace and looser scenes, that keeps it tight and engaging, but the character interaction makes it worth it. Act three was mostly good for Nathan Fillion's character's arrogance and the cast's improved confidence with the singing, particularly Neil Patrick Harris. But I found myself somewhat disappointed by the ending, even if it was just to set it up for a sequel, as it didn't seem like an adequate payoff for what it set up. If it had kept the pace and restraint of the first act, with the spirit of the latter acts, then it could have been a lot better, especially with the fantastic concept. Maybe production value and more time will allow this project to grow in future carnations. 7/10
Alyssa Earhart Joss Wheldon's "Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog" was exceedingly interesting to watch. The movie was about an evil scientist who falls madly for a girl he hardly knows. They finally start talking and a perfect, strong, handsome super hero comes along and sweeps her off her feet. Throughout the entire movie Dr. Horrible longs to be considered a "super villain" and be recognized as a threat by the other villains'' of the world and more specifically the "Evil League of Evil". He also longs to be desired by the girl he fell for. He sees that the superhero isn't good for her, but is just trying to find a way to get the girl to see this. I think the whole concept of this movie is great! It might seem silly to some people but the "cheesiness" of it makes it all the more better. The singing in the movie actually helped to make clear what each character was feeling/thinking at each specific part in the movie. The diverse attitudes of the characters added an interesting flare to the movie as well. For example Captain Hammer (played by Nathan Fillian) was clearly used to getting everything he wants, and for Dr. Horrible (played by Neil Patrick Harris) things never turn out the way they are supposed to. Overall I think that this movie was fantastic! I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a little comedy once and a while!
smattek10 Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog has an interesting story line that can be enjoyed by all people. Don't let the title scare you off, it might not seem the most entertaining but you'll be in for a treat. The movie has many different aspects to it that make it very entertaining. There are also a few elements that could be broken down in this film; they would be colors, the characters, and the setting. Pathos was also a big element of this film that can't be ignored. The film Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog can be enjoyed by all ages because of its interesting storyline and appealing characters. The setting for this movie revolves around the main character, Dr. Horrible. He is either filming a blog for his views, acting as an evil villain, or doing his laundry with Penny. Penny is a woman that Dr. Horrible has a huge crush on but doesn't know how to talk to her. The catchy tunes that they sing throughout the movie will get stuck in your head but you won't mind, they are very enjoyable. There is also another interesting character, Captain Hammer. He takes the place of a hero since Dr. Horrible is presumably the villain even though you don't view him that way. You probably won't view Captain Hammer has the hero but as a villain. This is because of pathos, the appeal using emotion. The audience is more emotionally attached to Dr. Horrible than Captain Hammer because Hammer can be seen as a woman stealer since he took Penny away from Dr. Horrible. Colors are also an interesting aspect in this film. Dr. Horrible wears a white lab coat for most of the movie while Captain Hammer wears predominately black clothing. White signifies the innocence of Dr. Horrible and the black expresses the evil in which Hammer possesses. Then after something catastrophic and unpredictable happens Horrible wears a red lab coat instead of the white one. Red is the color that expresses love and passion so I believe he's wearing a red coat to show he lost something that he loved. Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog will take you on an eventful ride and captivate you from the very beginning. It has romance, comedy, and action which will peak the interest of any viewer. This film also won't disappoint if you enjoy watching the characters use different technology throughout the film. It establishes pathos which will appeal to your emotions more and more as you get further into the movie. The storyline and setting are very interesting along with the characters and very good acting. I'd recommend this film to anyone who is looking for a good laugh, a romance, or an action packed movie.
casskab1121 At first hearing the title, Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog, I was a little skeptical. It seemed like it was going to be a second rate children's musical. As soon as it opens with Dr. Horrible, played by Neil Patrick Harris, practicing his evil laugh, funny to say the least, I was immediately proved wrong. After the first few seconds I was enlightened to see Neil Patrick Harris cracking jokes as he read emails sent to him about his video blog and acting as a "horrible" doctor of evil. As the film continued I was overjoyed to see funny musical numbers sung by Dr. Horrible. In the first upbeat musical number we find that he is love with a girl, Penny, played by Felicia day. The song was sung in a surprisingly light and bouncy tone. One might think that a musical number sung by someone named Dr. Horrible, a super villain, would be dark and sinister but this movie is refreshingly contradictory in that way. As such it doesn't take long to figure out that the protagonist of this movie is actually the villain, Dr. Horrible who is trying to get into the Evil League of Evil. That means that the antagonist must be a super hero. Yes, that is right Captain Hammer, Dr. Horrible's arch nemesis played by Nathan Fillion, is the antagonist. Upon his entrance to the movie you can tell by his demeanor and the way he sings his part in the musical number that he is a womanizing, arrogant, self-absorbed super hero who, in this is movie, is actually the bad guy. His main purpose is to stop Dr. Horrible from achieving his evil goals and to keep him from getting the girl of his dreams, Penny. Penny is a sweet philanthropic girl who wants to help the homeless and no surprise Dr. Horrible is in love with her. His arch nemesis Captain Hammer rescues her and pursues her giving Dr. Horrible one more reason to want to destroy him.The ending is not as perfect as one might hope and it almost leaves something to be desired but it has a strong yet subtle message that everything comes at a cost. There are subtle messages strategically placed throughout the movie making it fun to watch over and over again because every time you watch it you find something new that you hadn't seen previously. If you add the hidden messages and girl drama to a superhero-villain dynamic plus a catchy musical score you have a show that is funny, refreshing and well worth watching. This show is a perfect example of why you should never judge a book by its cover or, in this case, a movie by its title.
