Simple and well acted, it has tension enough to knot the stomach.

Let me be very fair here, this is not the best movie in my opinion. But, this movie is fun, it has purpose and is very enjoyable to watch.

This film really succeeds in bringing the Dragonball franchise back to life. Nostalgic and humorous moments dot the movie. The dub is great and its good to hear the original VA's. Beerus is a great villain and it is good to see a breakaway from the formula- Goku has to accept that SPOILER- he can't beat Beerus, well not yet anyway. The fight was well animated but a bit short for a DBZ film, however it had great tension and high stakes. The score is also brilliant and fitting for the new level of power reached by Goku. A highlight is "Birth of a super saiyan God"- and it is refreshing to see a transformation that is peaceful and graceful rather than screaming for 5 minutes. I liked the new form and I think that it is more than a recolor. The god-form also is skinnier and more flawless to give a deity like feel. The aura is also pretty cool. Overall this is a great movie for new and old fans of the world of DB.

What a way to bring DBZ back with this great action packed movie. We are first introduced to two new characters that are gods which is Beerus and Whis. I thought Beerus was a mad dope character especially when he fought a SSJ 3 Goku on King Kai's planet and knocked him out with only two blows. It had some nice comedy in it to. I thought it was funny when Vegeta went up on stage to sing to calm Beerus down from destroying the earth. I never thought I ever see that kind of side for Vegeta but it was somewhat interesting and new. The whole battle at Bulma's birthday party start because Buu wouldn't share the pounding which was silly to have a whole showdown over poundingbut it was enjoyable. Beerus pretty much owns everybody. The only Z fighter that actually laid hands on him was Vegeta because he slap his wife. When he powered up and shout that's my Bulma!, I was hoping I was about to see a SSJ 3 Vegeta but sadly he just went SSJ 2 but that adrenaline that he got literally over powered him for a brief moment. The final showdown with Beerus and Goku was quite enjoyable as well. Goku transformed into a new SSJ state which was SSJ God. I did not like that transformation. It didn't have any detail to it. It was just a recolor of Gokus base form plus he just got skinner. I thought it could of looked much better but I'm going back to the fight. Goku SSJ God and Beerus is exchanging blows which was the best parts of the movie plus they added some CGI animation in that fight that I thought was pretty cool. When Goku revert back to SSJ form, the fight was still intense and awesome. The final scene of the fight was beast when Beerus a temps to destroy earth then Goku stop it by instantly turning into a SSj God by absorbing the attack. We find out that Whis is Beerus teacher and that he is stronger then him plus there are 12 universes with more powerful gods which was interesting. All in all it was a great movie. There were somethings I didn't like about it but overall a enjoyable movie. I highly recommend any fan to watch this master piece of a DBZ film.

After many years of watching other people write his material licensed from him, Toriyama decides to write his own movie. This movie was more than a movie. It was the real hero of Dragonball (Akira Toriyama) coming back and reclaiming his throne after broken dreams from GT and DBE.And wow what a genius way to express himself. First of all, some people say that Bills and Goku didn't have the "predictable" Good vs. Evil contrast. For anyone that truly read Dragonball from start to finish should know that Dragonball came BEFORE DBZ. And Dagonball was a light hearted fantasy filled adventure for anyone of any age based on "Journey to the West". If Bills was to be predictable, it would not have been a good movie and untrue to what Dragonball was all about... unhindered creative genius. No, Akira put thought into this. Every detail was well executed. It had a brilliant build up that some of the other Dragonball movies didn't have. Many DB and DBZ movies were guilty of rushing into the plot and rushing into battle. Also, there is no rules to being creative. Akira knew that so of course he is allowed to take the story in a new dimensional direction. And so he did and its a fusion of Dragonball and DBZ into one.Battle of the Gods was mysterious from the moment it started. It had a fantastic balance of peace and comedy and build up from Bills and Goku to the party where we see all the familiar faces. Absolute nostalgia that Toriyama must have done to honor his own material. Even better he forked GT!! So now, Dragonball can go in a totally different direction ignoring the GT franchise not written by Akira altogether. He does it in a way that is subtle yet brilliant. No offense to GT writer, he tried his best but it just wasn't the same and Akira and all the fans knew it and anticipated this heroic comeback of the original writer.Gokus transformation into a God was modest since there is now almost no limit to his power. And I loved the layered dimensional feel to it. Of course power levels are irrelevant now! Shenron helping was a good plot decision as he was obviously outclassed and there was absolutely no way to fill the gap in power without the dragon. It was a plot device but a brilliant use of it and if this world were a reality I'm 100% sure thats how they would have chosen to defend from Bills. Even Goku expresses his dismay as he could not match Bills without the help of his friends and Shenron! Vegeta finally gets his honor back!! And yes Vegeta is not as moral as Goku but in some ways he is. Isn't there a little Vegeta in us all? A sinner in need of redemption, living by our honor and wanting something so much. The real shocker was Vegeta FINALLY had his day! From the fighting, the story surprises us all when it hints at the idea that Vegeta may be stronger than Gohan! I'm a huge fan of Gohan and wished he would have fought a little harder being the strongest character. Gohan being stronger than Goku (according to Akira and the anime), would mean that Vegeta surpasses Goku in this film. Goku confirms that at the end and the film comes together in a perfect way.But its hard to say at what point Vegeta surpasses Gohan and Goku and for how long since Bills seemed to be toying with Vegeta a bit and since Bills kicked Gohan pretty hard. And the style of characters moving beyond dogmatic transformations means in some way all of the characters have learned to be "Mystic" and not needed to transform to power up.The ending was a big surprise! Finally, Goku loses but he gains a friend without having to blow up the planet in the process. For those that were disappointed by that remember, this ending alludes to a continuance. If they were to cut loose completely, they would need an entire galaxy as a battlefield. This ending was compact, interesting and highly nostalgic. And I heard that Akira was really happy to use some of the more modern effects to animate the fight. I'm really glad he did not overdo it either. It was a perfect balance. At first I was unsure if I liked the new animation style. But I realized that since Dragonball the animation has changed a lot and this was a stylistic change that I found to be more modern and still pleasing. So it was good and very interesting to see. They even bring back Pilaf.Bills was a brilliant character! An Egyptian cat. Is there no end to Toriyamas creativity?! Whis was another surprise and they leave room for continuing the franchise. Although, I'm going to assume this film was a personal response from Akira as to how he in his heart wished his masterpiece work should have gone ever since he retired from his work. But the fans heard you and they know. Dragonball will always be an inspiring masterpiece of artwork and not Hollywood, not time nor any other forces of nature can take this away from you!Remember Akira, when people make video games, attempt to make GT (and not do as well as you could have) and make fan art and re-dub the series over and over again, they are paying homage to the genius fantasy you have created for everyone here on earth. And yes you have been a great inspiration to us all. They say mockery is the sincerest form of flattery. And so many series were inspired by DB (Yu yu hakusho admitted to being heavily influenced as have so many others).Congratulations Akira, you are one of the best and most courageous writers in the world.

While the movie was entertaining and its nice to see Dragon Ball Z in hd, this movie completely changes everyone's personality and makes them behave in odd ways like they are stereo types of themselves. They also did the fusion dance completely wrong, and Goku could summon Shinron by himself. By anger alone of his wife being hit (out of character for Vegeta being so concerned about anyone besides himself) Vegeta in Super Saiyan 2 form was many times stronger than SS 3 Goku. When Goku loses God mode he is going toe to toe with the same God, who almost killed him with a flick while he was in SS 3 mode, all with black hair he couldn't even fight cell let alone majin buu like that. This show is a stupid money grab at least watch all the dbz episodes before making a movie about it.
