Reviews

Boobirt Stylish but barely mediocre overall
Zlatica One of the worst ways to make a cult movie is to set out to make a cult movie.
Cody One of the best movies of the year! Incredible from the beginning to the end.
Darin One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.
Maks Verver Duck Butter tells a story of two struggling artists (sigh, I know) that flee from their troubles into an intense relationship. The good part is that both Alia Shawkat and Laia Costa deliver amazing performances as reserved Naima and dramatic Sergio, respectively. The bad part is that the story elements are rather trite and the plot doesn't lead anywhere. Overall, it seems like a waste of talent. At best, Duck Butter is a movie to be enjoyed for the ride rather than the destination.
richard-fieldhouse Two girls meet at a bar. One is an actor who worries about her motivation (played by Alia Shawkat, who also shares the writing credits). The other was the evening's singer at the bar (played by rising star Laia Costa). The following day they agree to try and spend a complete 24 hours in each other's company to explore their relationship. They start out liking each other but as we learn more about them it's not so clear whether we really like them quite so much or whether they'll stay together. The characters are realistic and well acted but they have some strange attitudes and an interest in what might be described as toilet humour if it was even remotely funny - but it wasn't. Each to their own, I suppose. Not the best accompaniment to a TV dinner. 5/10.
natcalgary I can understand how most won't enjoy this movie as it is not action or comedy or contain major stars. I put it on as a time killer and imediately fell in love with Laia Costa. What an incredible actress she is and she has a hell of a future in front of her. I was dissapointed with the ending but I understand that not everything works out beautifully like in the most hollywood movies.Over-all I reccommend you give it a try. PS Laia will you marry me.
FIoret Hollywood really lacks good lesbian scripts that doesnt end with heartache. But what makes this worth your time is the plot and acting. Laia Costa is AHHHMAZING. Seriously her smile, the tears, the rants and farts. She is a joy to watch. The plot is simple enough. Two women drudge thru (almost) 24 hours together. They learn more about each other than they'd probably like. Mostly I think, they learn they have to learn to love themself before they can truly love someone else. Also the scene where Laia holds her hostage in the bathroom is a huge metaphor I think. You can hold someone else emotionally hostage to make them stay around, to make them love you back.So despite another a heart breaking movie, it does make you look into your own bad habits in relationships. Its like watching a cringy trainwreck because you kinda see yourself in each of these women.
