Incannerax What a waste of my time!!!
Matcollis This Movie Can Only Be Described With One Word.
ReaderKenka Let's be realistic.
Abegail Noëlle While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
TheLittleSongbird That is saying a lot though, because the first Dungeons & Dragons gets my vote as the worst fantasy film ever made and among the worst movies in general; the second is a little better but is rather mediocre. Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness isn't great but compared to the previous movies it's certainly watchable. The ending is far too rushed and anti-climatic, also on the convoluted side. The dragon battle is also rather hastily paced and a little cheap-looking. The movie does drag a little at the beginning(the prologue maybe could have been trimmed a bit), there is the odd cheesy line and Jack Derges looks somewhat ill at ease as the hero. The cast mostly are very reasonable though, the best of the lot is Barry Aird as Bezz who is very menacing but in an understated way, thankfully a far cry from the chewing-the-scenery-to-pieces approach seen with Jeremy Irons in the first. Lex Daniel is an amusing and threatening assassin and Eleanor Gecks is sexy while not falling into the trap of being too vapid. There are definitely far cheaper-looking movies than Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness, the costumes are decent enough and the scenery is great. The special effects aren't award-worthy with the dragon being a disappointment but they do look as though some effort was put into them. The undead mutant child is really creepy and in a good way. The make-up is good as well, especially for Bezz. The music is dynamic enough and at least has a pace to it, the characters have a likability generally(they're not too bland and none of them are anywhere near as irritating as the one played by Marlon Wayans in the first), and the dialogue while ropey at times is still an improvement over the script-writing of the previous two movies, being thought-out and cohesive and there is little misplaced humour or tedious melodrama. The story is fun, swiftly paced and with a welcome dark and gritty touch, thankfully not going the camp or melodramatic route which the first two did, and the action excepting the dragon battle is decently choreographed with some intensity and energy. What Dungeons and Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness also has over its predecessors is that it is more loyal in spirit to what makes Dungeons & Dragons as an overall franchise work so well with the odd referencing, which the first two movies did not. Overall, the definitive Dungeons & Dragons is yet to be made and this movie doesn't really do the franchise justice, but it is not a bad movie at all and a significant improvement over the second and especially the first. 6/10 Bethany Cox
Fahad Mehar I Really Enjoy this movie last night, Lots of fun. But the Ending was so bad which let me down. I Don't like the HERO actually he look so dumb.Haven't watch "Dungeons & Dragons: The Book of Vile Darkness" first two movies. If i get chance I will watch them. The Ending should be when she insist him to come with her, What the heck stop the HERO ? You Know what the problem is nowadays of Hollywood movies.? I have seen lots of good movies BUT terrible endings? WHY ??? WHY ??? My Message to Hollywood. Please do satisfy ending. Instead of putting stupid twists
thetickspoon This movie stands as a testament of why I hate the MPAA. If any true DnD fans recall... the Dnd movie hit the theaters around when Star Wars Ep 2 hit. Dnd had a PG13 movie and was destroyed by the low violence it was allowed and lack of sex and danger. While SW ep3 had creatures cut in half with light sabers and even the head Fett mofo had his frigging head cut off and that was only PG. Tell me how that makes any frigging sense? This movie had action, violence, evil, a good-looking main character and actual plot that follows true DnD lore with a minor artifact of power. My only gripe with the movie... and I know... true DnD geek here... the main character goes from like a level 4 warrior to a level 30 paladin and obliterates all the bad guys in the last 2 minutes of the movie. Other than that... this movie is the epitome of DnD.Should have been the first... then we would have many good sequels to follow instead of that baby crap violence allowed in the first!
dreamdemon-1 Unlike the previous two D&D movies, this one has several things going for it:non-standard plot: goodie-good knight going bad it's not something you're likely to see everyday. Sure, the actor playing the knight is completely inept at it or at showing any emotion whatsoever but it's still OK to observe the storyall D&D elements are properly used. Unlike the complete muppetness of the first two movies, this one actually makes good use of basic D&D quest structure, roles in an evil party (also something you won't commonly see in D&D sessions) and interesting uses for D&D items (kill someone, stick his body in a bag of holding and throw it away ... caveat: bad of holding severely reduces weight so it might not sink so fast)undead girl very well put to use, not a great SFX achievement but it's undeniably creepy.party well put together, Bezz and Vimak are great to watch while Akordia has some great moments. What's not good? - first character is completely chaotic although it's obviously not the intention. He starts from a total whiny wuss, jumps to being determined and goes through being bad-ass back to regular wuss. Problem? There's no gradual progression there, no inner struggle, no emotion, no nothing. He changes between scenes following the needs of the story and not a real play of character.the ending is terrible!!! Evil is about to be unleashed into the world but the "battle" is totally anti climatic. The whole ending is a big WTF, the hero is chained but suddenly the sorceress places and amulet in his hand that shines and evil is dissolved. She tempts the hero to go with her, hero says no ... rolling credits! The ending puts the nail in the coffin of a movie that could've otherwise been a decent DVD release. Truly a shame!
